Ok so I have a shih tzu who's going 2 b 2 yrs. this month! He's almost potty trained... that's the problem! He always pees in the house and he once in a while poops. Whenever I take him outside he goes poop and pee... Well, I'm in high school and I have 2 wake up rly early... I just dont know when 2 take him out! Here's my schedule 4 me b/c school starts @ 7:20 a.m.

5:30-Wake up/take shower
5:50-get dressed
6- do my hair
6:10- breakfast
6:20- take my dog out?
then I leave the house @ 6:40... my little sister has 2 go 2 skool and my dad drops her off,but not until about 7:30 b/c my dad has 2 go 2 work...skool starts @ 8:30
My mom then gets home @ 1:25( but she doesn't rly take him out)
I go 2 bed @ 9:30 p.m.

Well, school finishes @ 2:13(1:13 wednesday) and i get home @ 2:45(1:45 wednesday)!

I was wondering if someone could make a schedule 4 my dog! Such as: When I should feed him( so he has enough time 2 go to the bathroom & digest his food), when i should take him out...

I have a one year old Shih Tzu and a four year old Bichon Frise and they are potty boxed trained, they go in a plastic box filled with newspapers. It might take a little training but it is worth it, they can go to the bathroom whenever they need to. If this wouldn't work for you maybe you could feed him before you do your hair and take him out at 6:20-30. When you get home a snack and a quick walk maybe about 15 to 20 minutes. Then you could do your homework and after you eat at about 7 or 7:30 you could feed your dog dinner and by 7:45 take him out again before bed. That would leave you with about one hour to get ready for bed. I hope this helped and good job taking such good care of you puppy. Shih Tzu's are wonderful little dogs aren't they :)?

5:30: Take the dog outside RIGHT AWAY! Feed the dog as soon as you come in (it takes about 20-30 minutes for the food to be ready to come out the other end)
5:40-6:00: Get ready in the morning
6:00-6:30: Go for a walk, take him outside to do his business. He needs to go for at least a 10 minute walk, just to get some exercise!
6:30-2:45: School
2:45-3:15: Go for a walk or play outside. Either way, some exercise is needed!
3:15-6:00: Do what you need to have done (homework, dinner, etc)
6:00: Feed the dog
6:30: Take the dog out again
???? (Just before you go to bed)????: Take the dog out again and for a quick walk before bed to help him sleep through the night.

That is just an example. Use it the way you want! Either way, the dog needs about 30 minutes to digest his food before it comes back out and should be getting between 20 and 30 minutes of exercise twice daily. If you are feeding a high quality pet food, as well, it will help reduce the size and frequency that he will poop (and maybe eliminate accidents in the house!)

Also, watch him for signs of having to go while in the house. If he is circling, sniffing the ground or squatting/crouching, it is time to say a stern "NO!" and bring him outside and praise him there. The reason I say to feed the dog so early in the morning, is to ensure he will do his business. If he takes a little longer to go (like mine), it gives him a full hour before his last chance is up, and increases the chances of him getting to go. You can also try to make it so that playtime won't begin until he goes "peepee" or whatever your key word is.

If you are still having problems, or it becomes more frequent, you should contact a vet about incontinence or a trainer with help in housetraining.

Okie dokie for you...
Puppy needs to wee/poo after he eats, after he wakes up from a nap and when he gets excited... and generally a wee every 2 hours... If you are away at school most of the day you really need a doggie door... here is what i think
5:30 - wake up and take puppy outside (wees and poos)
6:10 - while you have breakkie dog has breakkie too, just some dry food is good... about half a cup for a shitzu if he's smaller type then maybe 1/4 or a cup...
6:40 - remind sister to take dog out before she leaves
7:20 Dog goes out side for another wee and a chance to get in some garden action and mini play time
(If dog is alone in the house now perhaps get a puppy potty... and put it near the door... (a flat. low, cardboard box is great line it with a plastic bag to stop seepage and pop some newspaper or a puppy pad in there so your dog knows to always go there)
1:25 Mum takes dog out for wees and most likely poos as he will have digested breakfast now.
Dinner should be in the early evening... but the earler you feed him dinner the earlier the next day you will have to take him out for poos. I'd say feed him dinner about 5:30 and he should be able to hold on untill about 6am the next morning...
Out for wees again about 3pm when you get home... and again after dinner and just before bed... that way you have covered all your oportunities...
Hope this helps... also try to limit the dogs food in the evenings... no food at all after about 7pm so he only needs one poo in the morning not one while your at school...
GOOD LUCK...

If you were being really specific I bet you pee before your shower. That's when the dog has to go ...as soon as it gets up.If it has access to food and water all day it will have to pee all day.The accidents in the house are really yours and until you realize that and put the dogs needs near or at the top of your list it will always be that way. Id get mom on board with the whole consistency thing because her carpets will smell better for it. Look into crate training at the following link.

When you choose to get a dog these are your problems. He need discipline, food, shelter and love. He should go out immediately in the morning and approx every house during the day. He has a small bladder. He can be fed one main meal in the evening with some snack food left out with his water during the day. In 20 to 30 minutes after his evening meal is when he would normally go poop. My dog prefers to poop in the morning when he has had no food....so go figure.

These problems are part of being a Mom

Good luck

Every dog dos not follow a prepared poop schedule, you sound like your too busy to find out what this poor little guys bowels want do . Use the pads or newspaper, so little thing will go there & you just get on with your busy life! NEVER MIND YOU PROBABLY PROMISED TO CARE FOR THIS DOG. Who i'm sure loves you.

in the morning when you take him out at 6:20 feed him right before that and then let him out and bring him in right before you leave. 20 minutes is plenty time for a dog to go potty.

Your mom could also let him out again when she gets home. hen once you get home play with him and then fed him around 5 or 6pm. That way he has time to digest and go to the bathroom again before you go to bed.

Then take him for a walk in between 3ish-5pm. Dogs need exercise too.

Hope that helps

Well since you can't set a certain pattern for your dog because of your scheldule then I suggest using a potty pad. That way if your dog does have an accident in the house you can easilly clean it up when you get home.

What kind of medicine was on the pad? Most likely, since it was diluted with water and the dog only chewed on it, it should be okay.

I can't write a schedule but check out what Teoti Anderson says about being consistent....it will never work if you aren't consistent.
