I truly believe in the pay it forward theory.

I think it's a lost notion. Being generous doesn't require money - it can be your time, your knowledge, or a special skill.
Even monetary things don't have to be big. Every once in a while I will pay a tab that is not mine at a restaurant (not a big one - but maybe for an elderly couple I see sitting nearby). I simply tell the waitress and then slip out anonymously.
I am generous with my time - I am a volunteer coach for a competition cheer squad. When one of my girls asked me why I said because I love the sport, my daughter is on the squad, and I hope that one day when they are older they will "pay it forward" and step in to help other kids.
I am generous with what I know by volunteering as mentor at a local school -- same thing -- all I ask in return is to "pay it forward" and some day return the favor to another young person.

There is no need to shock people with generosity and I'm not even sure what you mean by that. You are either a generous person or not and by that you are not expecting some huge response. A genuinely generous person doesn't expect a constant flow of input let alone a shock response. That person just does. If it is not in your nature to be generous, you still don't deserve a overly gratuitous response. You should be doing these things for others because you enjoy it not because you need a highly motivated response.

If only I could... until that time, I'd rather BE shocked by the generosity of others! Hey... I'm not proud... just poor!

Have a polite day.

I love it! I truly do 'pay it forward' but people are still shocked at some of the stuff I do. I figure, if I help someone out, it will come back to me when I need it the most

I love being generous to people who expect it the least. But, shock them? No! I'm not a shock therapy kind of gal. In fact, in my gift giving, I prefer remaining anonymous.

I don't have a lot of money, but I will help anyone I can help the most I can. It is fun to do something for someone unexpected. I will share my bottled waters or my food, I give what I have when I can, it isn't always money.
