Agnosticism as I understand it is belief system that acknowledges that a god or God exists, yet without knowledge or definition of any particular deity. Actually, I consider agnostics to be realistic atheists. Too much evidence exists for the presence of some extra universal supreme being.
Agnostics have taken the first step toward the knowledge of God. Fence sitters, not. Yet, after acknowledging the existence of an extra universal supreme being, the process of discovery and research does not have to end there. Research into the nature and properties of whatever God may be is the next logical step. Otherwise, one is choosing ignorance or using ignorance for one's own purposes.

I am a reformed agnostic, aka atheist.
Yes, I tend to agree with you.
But, everyone has to get there in their own way in their own time.
I get upset at agnostics only when they support the destructive elements of religion through inaction. Otherwise, it's a matter of letting go of some very powerful superstitions -- that just isn't easy for some people. It wasn't for me.
How many people do you know who still say "knock wood" or look at their horoscope or freak out over black cats and spilled salt?
Pretty scary how the human mind works.

As an agnostic, it is nice to know that as a fence sitter, we do not have the need to judge others.
And for the guy below me: There is such thing as an Agnostic Theist. There are numerous "forms" of agnosticism as there are numerous forms of Chrisitianity. Once again, I suggest you do your research.

My opinion is that until an agnostic asks me for my opinion of their belief system, I should keep it to myself. I don't like it when people discuss Christians in the 3rd person on here as if they had a right to talk "about" us rather than "to" us, so will try to show the same respect to agnostics, atheists, and everybody else.

No, I am not a fence sitter at all.
I am a humble human being that is always questioning and learning. I realize how small we are and how much more we have to learn.
I won't give a definite yes or no answer until I have definite facts.

I called myself that once... I think in reality I was more of a deist at the time than anything, but there is nothing wrong with saying I don't know...
in referance to a god, however- I feel being agnostic about gods is about the same as being agnostic about Spiderman.

To the post above, yes, there are in fact atheists. We're convinced that no religion is correct, just as assuredly as you are that your particular flavor is correct (and, therefore, that all others are false). Funny that you should be the one to talk about proof, and lack thereof...

I tend towards the fence-sitting opinion too, but on the whole, agnostics don't trouble anyone, and I respect their questioning attitude.

I think agnostics lack a belief in a deity, and are thus admitting a weak form of Atheism.
