They're sort of alike.
To me dating means you like each other & spend time together, do things a couple does but you don't have that much of a committment. It can be ended quickly & if you go on a date with another person, it's no big deal. (As long as you and your partner both agree you are JUST dating).
Relationships are all about the committment. No more dates with other people. (Also make sure you both agree on this or else someone could get hurt).
The best thing to do is ask the person you are dating.. or in a relationship with.. what it means to the BOTH of you.

Dating is the period before the relationship. It's kinda like a general test before you get togheter with someone. Dating = more like testing then being in a relationship. Relationship = when both persons love eachother and has found out that this is somewhere where he/she wants to go.

I think dating is the early stages, and also non-exclusive.
Once the dating gets more serious, and you are committed to each other, it becomes more of a relationship.

Well, dating can be a "trial period" of sorts. You are going out to get to know each other.

Relationship could be that you've decided to become exclusive and only be with this individual thus becoming "boyfriend & girlfriend".

Well the technical term for dating is goign on dates, i think it means, or at least used to mean, that youcan date different people with out a commitment. but that was just dates, not having sex or any of that interfearance. we have changed it so much who knows anymore.

Dating is like a job interview. You meet, you get know each other, and that sort of thing

Relationship is like hiring the person be keeping them on probation. You like them but you still can fire them if the interview was all a front

When I was in highschool (graduated 2001) dating meant you were just hanging out but not exclusive. Relationship was exclusive.
