I mean unless u have 8 kids u probably use some form of birth control.... don't say the rythm method b/c both i and u know its terribly uneffective! So basically almost every catholic without 6 or more kids is consciously sinning for alot of their life?

Y should u stop using birth control and have many kids if u cannot afford them? If u cant afford them and have to have 6 kids then wouldn't the church's rules be dooming u to poverty and dooming our world with overpopulation?

Catholics who use birth control (not abortion) are using common sense and they are not hypocrites!
God didn't make this rule the Catholic Church did.
So they are going against the Pope not God.

The catholic church does stand against birth control-except for periodic abstinence. The majority of catholics do ignore the churches ban. So,...yes, most are hypocrites- at least in that respect.
The term "afford" should not be used with having children. Id everyone waited to have kids until they could afford them-there would not be any children.

I'm Catholic. I have been married for 13 years. I have 3 kids. I have health issues, so I really should not get pregnant again. Plus I'm 43 -- running out of time, here.

But my husband and I do NOT use artificial birth control. Yes, the rhythm method is ineffective, but that's not how we handle it. In case you didn't know, there are actually some medical scientists who are interested enough in women's health to have actually learned how ovulation works and what sort of real, medically proven signs of ovulation there are. There are many, actually, and each woman has her individual set of signs. By learning these and tracking these, it's a simple matter of choosing either to have sex during ovulation or not have sex during ovulation.

It works for EVERY woman who learns how to read her body's signs, even for those women like me who have health problems and other issues that make for very irregular cycles. Secular medicine prefers to keep women in the dark about their own bodies, so we women have to be advocates for ourselves and get ourselves educated, but it's worth it! A woman can even detect ovarian or cervical cancer by observing a change of ovulatory signs, well before any doctor would test her. And the earlier you catch those cancers, the better chance you can treat them.

ANY Catholic couple is free to choose when to have sex and when not to have sex, just like any other couple. They are free to avoid pregnancy when they have a grave reason for doing so. Yes, financial limitations count. Nobody has to have more kids than they can afford. Nobody is doomed to poverty or to a lack of education or to a lack of love. And the world is not doomed to overpopulation.

Furthermore, I know a number of couples who have one child and have been trying desperately to have another one with no luck. It's called "secondary infertility." They are facing a tragedy that saddens them to no end and you sit in judgment and accuse them of sin just because they don't have six kids!!!

So...is every Catholic without six or more kids sinning? Not necessarily. Some are, some aren't. But it's none of your business, because (a) you aren't them and (b) you aren't God.

Is it true that most Catholics are hypocrites. It's true that most PEOPLE are hypocrites, no matter what religion they practice. Hypocrisy is a common sin and one that's hard to see in oneself and hard to overcome once seen.

I know a "Catholic" who lives with a woman he is not married to. Think they have sex? I joined a Catholic singles group years ago, and all the guys tried to get me in bed within the first 3 dates. Another Catholic I knew full on cheated on his wife, while wearing a saint medal. If the standards are too unrealistic for you to follow, why make a hypocritical fool of yourself?
No shocker to see another hypocritical Catholic. The shocker would be meeting one who isn't.

What makes over population a catholic problem? It's not as if they don't live in houses and have jobs....Being a hypocrite isn't even relevant. The whole idea of sin is irrelevant.

Actually, there are modern methods of natural birth control that are quite effective.

Nevertheless, most Catholics do use medical birth control. I don't think it's hypocritical; I think the sense of the people is closer to reality than the beliefs of the hierarchy.

For the first question, it is hypocritical, but so is any sin really, when you profess to love God. Hypocrisy is forgiven like any other sin.

As to they "why".

Natural family planning works for some, and not for others, which is exactly why it's approved. It leaves the decision up to God whether a child is concieved or not. Like a coin has two sides, sex has two purposes. One is a way of expressing love with your spouse in a way you express it with no one else, the other is to create life.

Actually the use of birth control within marriage is a matter of personal conscience. In that case, it may or may not be a sin, but the burden of proof rests on those who use their conscience to justify it. God is the final judge.

Actually, natural family planning is as effective as the pill, so you are wrong there.

But yes, many Catholics use artificial birth control, which goes against Church teaching.
