I am currently going for my degree in Criminal Justice. I had ideas on what I wanted to do with it, but someone told me I couldn't really do the type of stuff the people do on the show C.S.I for example. I love the crime stuff though, helping people, I am just curious for any ideas.

You can do any number of things with a criminal justice degree. To get into forensics you should have a science background (chemistry, etc.) I myself am a probation and parole officer (which is under the state department of corrections). You can get into corrections in your state also (case manger, probation/parole, pre-trial, victim's advocate, correctional officer). You can also get into law enforcement, investigations. There are so many things you can do...the list is endless. Your best bet would be to intern with diffrent criminal justice agencies.

Do an internship with the court, correctional institution, or county police office, and see what you may like to do.

If you are talking best jobs, CSI style, it's not about your education. It's about your experience. During your school years, volunteer for as many research projects as you can. Get on some dissertation teams, look into internships.
I had an internship at the prison, and helped on a dissertation about criminal behavior. I had a little experience working in forensic psychology, too, so it was all good until I had to switch plans.
"I love helping people" is a silly reason for a career. Is there any career out there that can't claim they are helping people?
I would suggest that a career in criminal justice is nothing at all like you see on TV. Work at correctional facilities can be rough - completely different than what you are expecting. Nothing at all like CSI - I promise you.
On the bright side, it was great working in an environment where I felt safe, behind thirty locked doors.

There is many options available for you from local, state, federal and even private. If you like doing crime scene stuff you might want to take some chemistry classes and stuff like that. I don't know where you are from but here most state agents start out in the lab and work there way up to become field agents.
Anyways here is a cool site that has a lot of information about some different careers and what they require and so forth.
Good luck

A criminal justice degree will certainly help get you hired by a police department, but plan on starting in patrol.

CSI, and other special assignments require putting your time in first, and competing with you co-workers for promotion and/or reassignment.

I would expect a degree in biology, chemistry, or forensics, in addition to Criminal Justice, would be desired to be CSI, or crime lab work in general.

To do CSI stuff you'd need a science background.

You can be a police officer or a border patrol agent or a correctional officer.
