ok i am making sugar cookies right now and the recipe said to chill over night so i did and now i pulled it out and it is rock hard. so i would need to let it warm up and soften before i could roll it out but wouldnt that deffete the purpose of chilling it!?
what does chilling do?
What should i do i dont want the dough to dry out either!

basically they say to chill it so that when u do roll it out it won't be so sticky and hard to roll.
its ok if it is rock hard just start working with it and then it will get soft.

Hopefully you covered the dough so it wouldn't dry out....

Just turn half of the dough out onto a floured board or clean counter and whack w/ a rolling pin a little, then slowly start rolling it out. When the thickness you want, cut cookies, wad up remains, roll again. Repeat w/ other half.

i would just let it soften until its maneagable to roll and cut out cookies. Not over softened, because it helps it keep its shape and stay moist. However, you do want to make sure you bake your cookies until JUST lightly browned because they do carry over cook when you take them out and they will harden up if you over cook them, I always take them out when they kinda look underdone, but not raw, and let them sit for 10 mins, and they come out perfect!

let it sit on the counter and later when its doughy put some flour on it and do your thing nothings wrong with the dough so dont worry
