I've been to NYC, but not London. Going by what I've read about both cities, however, as well as my personal NYC experience, I'd say that I'd feel much safer in NYC. Even in Harlem, all I did was mind my own business, not take pictures, and not make a spectacle of myself and I was fine.

While NYC's overall crime, including murder and rape, rates are higher, the crime is predominantly concentrated in WaHI, South Bronx, and parts of south and east Brooklyn. Even in these locales, the rate continues to gradually decline. For the most part, all five boroughs are safe.

London has a lower crime rate, but crime is interspersed throughout the entire city (minus Downtown,) giving the city more of an unsafe feel. Add to this the fact that its city limits is geographically much smaller than NYC. Am I right or wrong?

So, do you feel safer in NYC or London? Thanks!

I feel safer in NYC because of the larger population. Plus New Yorkers are night owls-so they are out late. The subway runs 24 hours as do the buses while in London the Tube stops running after a certain time and many times late you are out and you are by yourself. I am a New Yorker though plus NY is cheaper-the Londoners and every other European is coming here to shop.

NYC is one of the safest cities in the US. I really think one reason why NYC gets such a bum rap is because it is majority of color and also 1/3 immigrant.

I love London and have been there about 15 times-every time I can get a cheap fare I go.

About the same. I have been to both places. the "City" of London is very small (one square mile), however "Greater London" is huge -- 609 square miles, almost twice as large as Greater New York. You are wrong about crime being spread throughout the city it is concentrated in bad neighborhoods just like New York.

Central London (not the same as the City, Includes Westminster, Kensington and Camden) is probably a bit safer than Manhattan.

You do realize that there is almost no gun crime in England?

The only way I felt unsafe in London was because the traffic gos in the opposite direction than the US and you must take to look right instead of left when crossing the street.

You are wrong about how safe either place is-- but probably right that YOU will FEEL less safe in London, because you already have the idea in your head, if you get my drift.

Haven't been to London but I would assume some parts would be good and part bad as NYC.

To answer yo question, I'd feel saferr in NYC as I know here well but I feel but NYC and London would be equally safe.

well, I've never been to NYC, but have been to London and felt perfectly safe. We were 2 women (my daughter and I) with 2 young children. We had no problems at all.
