I wake in a state of complete consciousness and I twist my arms toward the sky, or make a strange face, I've even slithered like a snake before. I go to sleep almost immediately afterwards.

You are in the inbetween phase. Not quite awake and not quite asleep. Could be muscle contractions. I jump sometimes when I am falling asleep. Once I scared myself by putting my hand in the air and when I first saw it I thought it was another person. I was about 12 at the time.

it sounds like a spasm of some sort or some trauma to the nerve cells making you do this. As for the sleeping, well that's normal too your body needs a rest after all the things going on when the spasm takes hold- you would too!

Maybe you were dreaming and transferred the dream's motions to your consciousness.
I've woken up to take an M&M and put it in my mouth from in my dreams.
