Not guilty, it is their choice. However, materialism and possession of too many superfluous things is damaging to the psyche. Ask them to make a donation or charitable contribution in your name instead. Or, ask them to take the money they would have spent on gifts and put it into a college fund for you. A Roth IRA is great, because of the compound interest. That would give you a great start when you get out on your own.

No, it is not your choice to be an only child, it was your parents' choice.
The stuff? Hopefully you've deserved all the things you've been showered with.
Show humility and gratefulness for those things your parents have given you.... Then you will be fine.
Never feel guilty for those things that are given you, just feel appreciation.

I am the golden child in my family, I love it and do not feel guilty, I did not make it that way.
I probably give more to others than most because I know how great it feels to receive.

No way! I am an only child too.
The good thing is you get all the cool presents and stuff.
The bad thing is when something in the house breaks, you take all the blame. Or when your parents are in a bad mood they take it all out on you.
You have to take the good with the bad.

No. why should you. After all you are the only child. It pays to be an only child. Although, when they are old you will be the only one to take care of them........with no other siblings to push them to.

No, but don't take advantage of it and become a spoiled brat because you have numerous people out there than can't even afford gifts for Christmas.

I think a better reaction would be to feel blessed and grateful, and then try to help others who aren't as fortunate. Best wishes.
