That is the Pentagon's plan right now is to pull some of the troops out now.
But I also say we should keep troops in there indefinitely. Historically, by stationing troops overseas, we provide the local economy with jobs and money to build on and improve. In Germany, we maintained bases there and hired the Germans to repair the roads and build housing for servicemen's families. We also supplied American buyers to Germany's local economies and helped them rebuild militarily. Today, Germany and Japan are among the leading 8 economies of the world and our best and strongest allies.
We should do the same with Iraq and Afghanistan. It is in America's best interests to do so.

As the prior poster says we're still in Germany and Japan more than 60 years after the end of those wars.
We're still in South Korea at 50 years after the end of that war.
We were still in Saudi Arabia more than 10 years after the end of the first Gulf War.
We as a superpower have troops deployed around the world.
The reason people want our troops out of Iraq is due to active hostilities there and pre-war opposition. While I might agree that our moron President prosecuted this war ineffectively the simple answer to your question is "No". We can not leave because to do so would do two things:
1) Insure a civil war occurred in Iraq. The bloodletting occurring there now is not good but compared to that seen in a civil war it is miniscule. In fact with neighbors such as Iran supporting the the Shiites, Saudi Arabia and Syria supporting the Sunni and Turkey ready to blast the Kurds into oblivion I'd say the chances of there not being major loss of life there on our premature exit are almost guaranteed.
2) One of the reasons we needed to go there was due to the view many in the world held of us that we have no commitment and are unwilling to bleed when necessary. Leaving now would simply reinforce that perception.

Having Ali's in the mid east is a good thing and when the US goes somewhere we never leave and thankfully never will. WW2 Germany & Japan the war ended 60 years ago and we are still there. vietnam war ended 35 yeas ago and we remain. I do agree with you. I want the troops home too but only after Iraq is a complete success. I just got out of the army, I served seven years with some of the best troops and people i'd ever meet. Their are some I will never see again, that had families and they will never see them again. The war is for a very good cause and will benefit all americans only if we are succesful. I pray for our troops safe return home, right after I pray for a successful mision. My friends shall not have wasted their lives, we will not fail.

Do you ever read or watch the news? It has already been said that some troops would be pulled out with out replacements. That sounds like moving some troops out.
But it will be done as the situation warrants not by some fake time schedule directed by the Dems in congress who want to loose the war so that they can use it to gain the White House.

The US won WWII in 1945. We still have military in Germany and in Japan. There is no critical emergency need to move troops out when the battle is won.

Not just yet. Halliburton's profits have not quite hit the same level as Exxon Mobil's.

We will stay as long as the corporations that are making obscene profits say we do.
What will it take for you to recognize this?
