My wife is also atheist, but for different reasons than I am. My rejection of anything supernatural runs along intellectual lines, while my wife just emotionally rejects any organized religion as human folly. Anyway we're very compatible.
Our daughter, now 12 has been attracted to Kumari worship as well as Buddhism, although she is aware her father rejects both as foolish.

There is no unified set of rules determining who atheists can and can't marry. Atheism is a disbelief in god and religion.

I'm not married but I have been in a commited relationship for almost 9 years. When we first started dating he was catholic. He converted to atheism after trying to prove to me that god exists.

Yep, all the time.
Typically we find reasonable spouses why might have some reliance of faith, but are willing to accept our need for the tangible.
Otherwise things go bad.

Atheism is not a religion, any more than "bald" is a hair color or NOT collecting stamps is a hobby.
That having been said....my first wife was Episcopalian. Needless to say, it was the single biggest mistake of my life...

I'd marry somebody who has nothing against atheism, homosexuality, etc.
Don't really care about religion.
