the challenger would win ,with the exception of the engine package it had in it,but its lighter and doesn't have as much weight to move around,i had a 71 challenger last year, and it ran good for what it was, good luck.

I own a '70 Challenger R/T, 383 Magnum, 4 speed, Sure Grip 3.23 rear, purchased used in 1972 and a '70 Charger 500, 383 four barrel, A/T, 2.76 Sure Grip rear, purchased used in 1981. The Challenger is faster off the line and wins the quarter mile, the Charger is faster on top end, all due to gearing in both cars. The Charger goes on vacations, A/C and cruise being the big factors and is a little more comfortable on long trips, but in recent years it has stayed home, I like it too much to have it stolen. The Challenger is fun due to the four speed and it handles a little better than the Charger, suspensions and engines are pretty much stock on both. Both could be had with the same engines so you really can't say which would win a race. It's a matter of what you like and I liked both so that's what I bought.

How old are we talking here?
I'm a Charger guy and both cars had the same engine options, so I would say the Chally hands down if they were equally equipt. The shorter wheel base a definet plus for handling and it is much lighter!
I think I saw that movie too...with the white 70 Challenger 318 vs. the black 68 or 69 (can't remember) Charger R/T 440.
The blower on the Charger in that case is a give away...that poor old grocery getter had no chance!

damn the challenger will win why it wasnt as popular as the charger but it was sure lighter. with a 426 hemi in both the challengers 0 to 60 is about 5.2 sec but some say the charger 0 to 60 is 4.8 but i think due to most sites say 5.6. top speed the challenger can get up to about 150 compared to a charger 145(not daytona). charger though had a rep. for that villian like styling but challenger like i said lighter and better handling. but both still kicks ***! mopar is king of muscle cars. i got a question for you how about a 1968 gss hemi dodge dart vs a skyline both stock oh btw the dart 1/4 is 10.2 at over 130 mph. my opinion dart all the way.

Well this hard to say. So let's put it like this...
68 Bullitt black Charger VS Vanishing Point white Challenger
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry Yellow Charger vs Fast /Furious Orange Challenger
Fast/Furious black Charger vs Dukes of Hazard 69 Charger
I guess the Charger has it by a nose. (actually about a foot longer)

As I understand things, the Challenger is the superior car--Chrysler developed it as a replacement for the Charger, which had some MAJOR aerodynamics problems that were discovered in the wind tunnel after a disproportionately large number of shunts in NASCAR Grand National, compared to the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Ford Thunderbird (the Charger Daytona and RoadRunner Superbird were intended to address these problems but were legislated out of competition by NASCAR within a year). The Challenger held the track better, and a loss of 200# compared to its predecessor helped in that department.

Powertrain wise, both cars are identical. You could get anything from a six cylinder to a 426 hemi.Basically the only difference is in the looks department. The challenger is about 200lbs lighter but thats not that much.so I guess neither one kicks the others butt, together they kick everyone elses butt!!!

Old Challenger, hands down.
My favorite car when I was growing up was the 1970. The car appeared in a great movie called "Vanishing Point" God!, what a great movie that was!!!!!

basically these two cars are the same in horsepower but the biggest difference is in size and weight which would come down to personal preference. In a head to head street drag both would be tie if both were straight from the factory
