And how does your ideas of what "family" means relate to your beliefs (or lack thereof) about God?
Please be polite.

For some reason, Yahoo thought this question ought to be in the LBGT section. Anybody have any idea WHY??

Family, I think, are the people who love you...the people you can depend on to be there for you when you need them, and vice versa.
Love is what makes family...

Family is anyone I feel close to, whether blood-related or not.
To me, family describes a person or people who know everything about me, but love me anyway.

Neat question!

Personally Definition

In my mind, it's a group of 3 or more people that live together in relation -- blood related, adopted, or otherwise. Typical: mother, father, child. But, if there is only a father and child, I suppose they are a two person family. But for me, the word Family relates to the word *group*. I include my best friend in my definition of 'family'. It's a really flexible word I think.

The real meaning of 'family' is the people living in one household. Of relation or not -- coming from the word 'servants'. But I think the more modern term is meaning "blood related". So, they don't have to be living together to be a family.

I don't see what god has to do with it.
Most religion is based upon ignorance and intolerance anyway.

So, if you are referring to same sex parents or something like that, doesn't matter to me. Some say that a child need a mother AND a father and same sex parents are no substitute. I say that's a load of bull. I had a mother and father and they did a very BAD job at being parents. Has nothing to do with them being either male or female etc.

With the subject of gay marriage so high on some peoples list I can see why yahoo thought it should go into the LGBT section. Perhaps they thought you were asking if it's a family when you have "two dads" or "two moms". In my opinion if they take care of the kids I could care less. So many families are downright dysfunctional now it's crazy. I've always said me and my siblings raised ourselves,if we had let our parents raise us we would have been better off being raised by wolves. I personally don't really think too highly of families,my experience with them has mostly been that they're people who think it's okay to stab you in the back because you're related.

Define Wondering

Well, almost all of us came into being with in a group of people called a family prior to our existence. The same group of people becomes our family also. If I extend it to god, then both of us belong to a universal family of the god/creator/ big bang or whatever you call it to be. So, we are a family within a family.

Family is the group surrounding you and there for you during good and bad times. Who accepts who and what you are. Sometimes its "traditional" and sometimes its not.

My definition doesnt really have anything to do with my belief system or "god". Its just what I believe a family is. Its a definition based on observation, parental teachings and experiences of my own being a parent.

My definition as it applies to my life - any person, be they biologically related or not, that one wishes to include in their family circle.

I have an "aunt" who was my mother's best friend from her childhood days. I've always called her aunt when addressing her, she has treated me and I her like we treat biological family members and I love her just as much as anyone I share genetics with. To me she is just as much family as any of my blood relations.
