I like the teachings of Jesus, but the stories of the dead being raised, walking on water, feeding thousands with a handful of food, water turning into wine and all that....

I mean there's no extraBiblical record of any miracles - anywhere!

And if those miracles actually, really happened, one would surely think that at least ONE of the forty or so historians in Palestine during the time of Christ, who recorded mundane things as well, would have mentioned one of them.

And of course, no one has ever seen miracles like these in today's real world, even though Jesus said that believers would do even greater things than He did. I mean, there's claims of "invisible" miracles (healings, etc) but nothing Biblical or that cannot be explained by scientific means.

So would God understand why Christians would see the miracles of the Bible as metaphor only?

To include the virgin birth also.

yes, of course

the biggest problem is that other Christians may say you're not a "real Christian" for not believing what they believe

John,
If you do not believe the Miracles of CHRIST then you could never be a Christian. Christ was the Messiah. The Miracles were signs of HIS True Blood. You have evidently mistaken everything in the Bible if you do not believe that HE was the Messiah then YOU could never be considered GOD'S SON (Christian) and have the hope of eternal salvation. Have a great week.
Thanks,

Since the first requirement for having trust and confidence in someone is knowing that person—the more completely and accurately, the better. Similarly, accurate knowledge is needed for you to be motivated to believe in God. "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld," Paul said. (Hebrews 11:1) Belief in God without accurate knowledge of the Bible is like a house of cards. A little puff is enough to make it fall.

That is all they are. Metaphors and early myth stories. Back in the days - they believed just about anything, so you could tell them anything. They were usually uneducated, reading and writing were for the elite only. They were word of mouth stories that went through generations and finally wound up with a writer who probably [in his mind] was only writing a story based on what he had heard. After thousands of years you would think people [supposedly educated] would understand that.

This viewpoint would tend to limit the capabilities of God/Jesus or would indicate that the Bible was not a faithful record. In either case, the lack of evidence would seem to indicate lack of existence.

I have some very interesting stuff for you to explore.

It appears that first Century Gnostic Christians believed that very thing, but went a step further, and didn't even believe in a literal Jesus.
