Pulled BBQ brisket is strong and maybe spicy so you'd need a wine that stands up to that. I'd suggest a decent red Zinfandel or perhaps a Sirrah. Whites might be lost, especially sweet ones like Chenin Blanc, Rieslings and Gewurztraminer Wine.
I'd suggest you try a few to see what YOU like though!
But BBQ and ALE sounds like a great pairing too!

Definitely a Syrah/Shiraz! The page below in the source area has a few suggestions. As you can see, the prices can range from moderate to very expensive.
Since the wedding is not until July, I would suggest purchasing a few bottles of various types over the next few months to sample yourself. You could purchase online or from a reputed wine store in your area. If you purchase from a wine store, you could ask them several questions before making a purchase.
Congratulations!!!

Viognier (White)
Has great tropical fruit flavors and proper acidity to stand up to BBQ Gewurtraminer as a second choice.
Red- Chiante(sangiovese grape) or Syrah/Shiraz maybe even Red Zinfiandel or petite syrah for something more robust.

Zinfandel can be light to full bodied. It can be rich and spicy or lighter and fruitier. Aromas and flavors that are typical include raspberry, jam, black pepper, and licorice. I would suggest a full bodied, spicy Zin to blend with the strong flavors of the bbq. A Zinfandel by Renwood (Amador County) or Serghesio (Sonoma) would work well.

my first choice would be beer for summer bbq, but that's probably not appropriate for a wedding. that said I would do either a shiraz/syrah or red zinfandel. both go well with sweet/tangy bbq.
most whites are not going to be substantial enough to go with the brisket.

You want Turning Leaf Pinot Noir. Hands down fantastic. You'd swear it was $25 bottle when it's actually $7. You cannot go wrong. I can buy and drink anything I want and I still stock that one at all times.

Serve the kind of wine you like. Don't worry if it's red or white.
