Wow people are really freaking out at this.... some people ever think that not every couple is traditional and uptight. There are lots of couples and their families who can take a joke and do something fun.... maybe they are bachelor party cakes.. who cares? it's a frickin cake. you eat it. get over it. this isn't grandma's snooty etiquette class 101.
even if the asker isn't getting married, if she was, i say do whatever you feel like. my best friend instead of having a unity candle, they are mixing a martini together. people might say this is oh my goodness in such poor taste.. so? if it means something to them (he's a bartender, they met in a bar) then why shouldn't it be ok?

You did ask "what was your grooms cake" right? B/c no one is answering that.
My groom is into Hockey and we enjoy going to games together. My team (Carolina Hurricanes) won the Stanley Cup the same month as our wedding. So he got a Carolina Hurricanes logo with the Stanley Cup on his groom's cake.
It's usually something the groom enjoys. He picks it out. However that doesn't mean he could pick out something tacky and ruin the feel of the whole wedding. Sometimes they are more elaborate but not always. A good percentage of the time they are chocolate as sort of the opposite of the bride's cake. Ours was chocolate, but it was just a single layer, nothing elaborate.
Often, it is the cake served at the rehearsal dinner but recently it's become an alternate cake served at the wedding. It's really up to the bride and groom, based on how many people are coming to the rehearsal and if it's a formal rehearsal dinner. We served ours at the wedding, since my cake wasn't going to be quite big enough for everyone there. Several I've been to recently used a family recipe for the groom's cake. The last one I went to it was a spice/pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing that the groom's grandmother made. Anyone at the wedding can pick either of the cakes to eat.
Though from a simply artistic point of view, that first cake is amazing. It's so realistic looking. And if the groom doesn't have any hobbies other than drinking beer....though I wouldn't want to advertise that, but I've heard some women say that before about their spouse.

I have been trying to figure out this groom's cake thing. According to my grandman, she's 68, a grooms cake is a little cake that is wrapped up and sent home with the single woman. The woman places it under her pillow and a new man is suppose to find her so she will get married soon too.
According to everyone else it is the cake for the groom made out of something he likes.
Either way, I am not doing a grooms cake. We are getting married, that means united as one, therefore one damn cake.

Our Grooms cake was a replica of a Raider's Football Helmet. I think the first cake was cool, not the second (at least not for a wedding/maybe a bachelor party) & I think that the cake topper is funny. Don't know that I would use it but it gave me a good laugh.

In the UK we don't really do grooms cakes, it seems to be a US tradition. If we did I would have had something totally chocolate though as my husband is the worlds biggest chocoholic! I do not like that cake topper at all, it's a bit inappropriate (although quite funny)

Our grooms cake was the sesame character that hangs out in the garbage can. The character was part way out of the garbage can. It was really cute. My husband picked it as it was his cake. The cake is cut and sent home with the guests. No, I don't like either of those nor do I like the cake topper. I'm not into drinking beer nor sexual cakes or toppers.

For my husband's groom's cake I had my baker make a chocolate dobash cake that looked exactly like his car. I didn't tell my husband to be that I was getting him a groom's cake but when he saw it at the reception -- he loved it!
Of your three pics, I would choose the heineken one. When choosing a grooms cake, think about your fiance and something special about him. Maybe his favorite sport or hobby -- football / golf / surfing etc.

If you are getting married at a roadside bar then go ahead, otherwise, no, they are all very tacky.
Usually you pick a favorite hobby of the groom's and model it after that if you want to do something specific. Otherwise you can go with a chocolate cake with the little strawberries in tuxedos or something generic like that.

Those look more like bachelor party cakes than groom's cakes. I can't imagine any bride allowing to have such a cake at the wedding. Grooms cakes are usually just plain chocolate cakes with little decoration, or decorated like one of the groom's hobbies- a sports team, a car, etc. They are for the wedding guests to eat just like the regular wedding cake. Those are deff. Bachelor pary cakes.
