I had a rather scary experience last night. I was half asleep, when I heard my husband mumbling something. I didn't think this was odd because he talks in his sleep sometimes. Then I smelled a hot, sulfurus rock stench. My husband said he saw a ominous red/grey cloud over my dressing table. I went to sit up, and I put my hand down on my hair, jerking myself back into a prone position. When I finally sat up, he said it was gone. I got up and got some inscence, lit it and prayed to the Goddess and God for protection. I am really freaked out. I want to sleep in peace tonight. What can I do?

I know demons arn't a pagan thing, but it was creepy. He hadn't gone to sleep yet so that wasn't it. The only meds he's on are for gout, and they are non-hallucenogenic.

If you are sure you were not dreaming, cleanse the room. It sounds like you have some free floating crud, like hostility or anger. If there is anything you've been wanting to bring attention to or discuss, and have been holding back, or if he has an issue he is holding back discussing, do it now. Do it kindly and outside the house. Sometimes unresolved issues have a way of popping up as the strangest stuff. Turn the spooky energy into something useful. Clean house, play music, make love, and anything else that brings pleasure and harmony into your household. You can handle this. Just do that Voodoo that you do. No one has yet died from a stinky red haze. ;)
Though, my dog makes a funky green cloud sometimes that nearly chokes us.

PAGANS can believe in demons (amongst other things). WICCANS don't (at least not the Christian kind). How long have you been Pagan? If not long, your fears could be manifesting themselves. Do a purification ritual on your room and on yourself. Look at your life recently is there anything that may have you fearing demonic intrusion? Remember that in magick you get not what you want but what your heart believes you should be getting. That's why proper mindset and focus are so important. Pagans new to the Path often encounter obstacles like "Demons" or "The Wrath of God" because they still haven't purged the idea that Paganism is somehow Satanic. This undermines them in both worship and magick.

Have you been doing any spellwork lately? anything that you called upon a spirit for? Did you remember to cast your circle and respectfully invite and respectfully dismiss all the elements? did either of you have an ominous feeling of negativity?

I'd suggest casting a circle around your entire home, invite all the elements and tell them your fears, and ask them for protection. Do you have any Citrine? I'd get some. It never needs cleansed, and is excellent for protection, especially around your home. Maybe ask the spirit to tell you what it is that it needs from you, and that if it is there for negativity, that it must leave.

did you get any new objects that were on your dressing table? anything ritualistic that you haven't cleansed yet? I had strange feelings, sort of similar, until i cleansed all of my ritual items... I like moonlight best. I also ask the gods to bless those items as well.

Good luck, and if you need to talk, drop me a line.

I would smudge the house. A friend of mine has suggested in the past something that may work for you too.

rosemary, lavender, and salt. Mix with water and put in a spray bottle. Spray this all around the inside of your house. Of course keeping in mind what the intent is. The friend suggested this for people who have trouble with smoke.

You can email if you would like. I have some other suggests I'd rather not post here.

(Demons aren't part of paganism, you know...)

I would smudge with sage and sprinkle salt water. And if necessary, go into the Lesser Bannishing Ritual of the Pentagram.

Likely what happened was just a trick of perception, but I know how hard it is to calm the mind when it's convinced it's seen something. Doing the above will let you sleep well at night.

even in the Christian faith it is about faith and sincerity. Jesus said he would give us power over demons but when the disciples said they couldn't it wasn't because they didn't have the ability they just didn't speak with authority. So if you genuinely believe that you can banish the evil from your place then speak with authority and demand three times the following "If you are here for my benefit then thank you but if not then YOU MUST LEAVE!" (got that from one of my pagan friends) and spiritual law says that as long as you are speaking with intent and faith and sincerity that they must listen to you. It has to start within you though so lighting incense is only making nice smelling smoke unless you lit it with intent and sincerity and are using it as a tool for your personal work.

Sounds like somebody's taking "Charmed" a little too seriously. Real Pagans don't believe in demons, sweetie.

Are you sure you were't dreaming? Or he was?
Sorry I really hate to judge on things, but this just sounds straight out of a movie. Is he on meds? When I mix my moodstablizer with my sleeping meds and still can't sleep, I see red swirls in the air. It's the meds. Nothing more.

Incarnatrix has a good suggestion.
If it were me...
A good smudge.
Have you "opened" anything? Circles, ouijas, etc...
Anything?
Sounds like an unhappy something!
Has there been negative energy in your house lately?
A smudge and some light...literal light could help.
Thats' what I would do.
Sorry if I'm not more helpful!

It's not a demon. Your husband has more power than either of you know about.

I would suggest studying latent powers.

Do you have a priest/ess? If you haven't consulted him/her, then do.
