If I were to complain about atheism, I wouldn’t attack the position per se, because I think it is a fairly reasonable position to hold. I do have a critical word or two about atheists in particular. It seems that atheists, for the most part, are not vocal enough about their atheism, and I think this is a real travesty.
Christians, Muslims, and people of other religious persuasions are quite adamant about evangelizing, and most atheists, would prefer to sit in the closet and not express their views openly in order to combat these people. That is why atheists, and secular people in general, are generally underrepresented in opinion polls, in politics, or in any arena of influence.
The secular community in general seems to lack the cohesion necessary to turn the tide against religion. Granted there have been some valiant efforts by certain groups to bring atheism to the forefront, but for the most part atheists seem to be under the impression that their non-belief is a private affair. Unfortunately, the religious minded people don’t feel that way, and their public expression of their beliefs, and their endeavors to influence our culture, media, schools, and government do effect everyone.
If I had one wish it is that nonbelievers would unite, despite our differences, to curtail the influence of those who are religious. That resistance can be political, legal, academic, or just the simple participation in argumentative forums such as this one. The point is we need to bring understanding and awareness to our cause, lest we have religious people, with their lunatic beliefs, gain hegemony over public discourse.

What bothers me most about other Atheists is often the same thing that believers complain about. Many of them have a bad case of know-it-allism and lack compassion for people of a different mindset.
What bothers me most about believers and the hold that religion has on the masses is all of the wasted human potential. Imagine what we could have accomplished by now if we acknowledge that we were all in this together and no one was coming to our rescue so we better get busy helping ourselves. Power hungry leaders couldn't use our religious differences to manipulate us.
Merry Christmas (if that's your pleasure) and Happy New Year to you as well. As I have said before, this time of year has held a special place in the hearts of man since the dawn of our species. It is a world wide and ancient tradition to celebrate, regardless of belief, at the time of the winder solstice. For all of our differences, we have so many more similarities. Surely there is hope for peace and progress.

My religion doesn't bother me at all. But it is my own. What bothers me most is when others try to cram their beliefs down my throat. It gives their religion a bad name. I don't have a problem with atheists. The state of the world is rather sucky, and I do believe that we can thank GWB for a lot of it. I just wish people could step back and consider what they are doing to the future of the planet.
Merry Christmas to you.
Happy Yule.

The COLD HARD TRUTH?
Neither of them really know.
Quote your scripture all day long, but your Good Book has been in the HANDS OF MAN for 2000+years and you really don't have a clue as to how much he has perverted your Word, do you? Applies to any organized religion.
Quote your scientific fact all day long, but your theories of Big Bang and evolutions are still just that - THEORIES.
The cold hard truth is that either argument is based on faith - and neither of you REALLY know.

What bothers me about all religions - mine included - is that some members can't just accept that others are different, and be happy with that. They seem to have this drive to convert everyone else to their precise way of thinking.
My view is this: believe what you want, just respect my right to do the same. There's no one "right" religion... in fact, the atheists make the most sense for having NO religion. (I admit that my own belief in souls & such is the primary difference between me & an agnostic.)
---------------------------------------------------------
Bit of nitpickery here: doumbek, you called evolution "just a theory." Scientific theory is different from the common usage of the word 'theory.' Also, you forgot gravity (Theory of Gravitation) and germs (Germ Theory). Those are "just theories," too. They aren't 100% refined to perfection, but they are good enough to make accurate predictions & observations.
And your "every thumbs down" comment is pure arrogance and assumption. It's like the people who say, "By disagreeing with me, you prove me right."

Most Christians shy away from their Jewish roots in the Messiah. Celebrating xmas instead of Hanukkah, easter instead of Passover.
Yeshua (Jesus) never taught anyone to violate principles of Torah and most the believers have never studied Torah and claim authority over the Hebrew Scriptures.
Shalom.

nothing bothers me about my beliefs. Just don't push your views on me, call me stupid for not believing what you believe, this goes for any religious orientation or non-religious orientation. Questions like : Why are jews the only smart ones, or why are christians smarter than... and why are atheist stupid......are plain idiotic. A person's religious views doesn't determine their IQ people, so quit with the insults. There is a major difference between discussion/debate and plain arrogance.

As an Atheist it bothers me the most that religious people, a majority, can not and will not accept that I just do not believe in god. Also the same majority want to remove the wall of separation between church and state and fail to realize how wrong it is.

The cold hard truth is that I tend to see the cold, hard truth in just about everything.
And what's upsetting about that is that I am one of the very few people who do so.
And those that don't, tend to resent people like myself for smashing their rose-colored glasses.

Well I think people have the right to think what ever they feel. I just dont want any one to force me to worship a god in which no one knows exist. I get mad when people will say the bible is 100% true. We dont have all the answers to life and the bible is not the answers to everything. We will never in our life time know the truth or know everything.
