The is a book called "The Celestine Prophecies", answers the first part of this question, at least one of idea that the journey can be completed and if it is what might happen . For entertainment it is a great read. The part about Christ, I knot believe that. He is only written in the bible as to set up his kingdom and reign for a thousand years, and then letting Satan have another chance, it is also written that the earth itself will come an Eden for life to be restored as it was in the beginning with Adam & Eve. I believe that new scriptures will be written at this time and as it is written we will forever in paradise.

We are created with different natures at our very core. Jesus was and is at his core a messias, a saviour who has come down from highest layers of this universe to reach those below. This is his nature.
The nature of humanity is not so much to become saviours themselves or even to reach the highest reaches of the universe (although the saving and enlightenment are what the buddhists try to do and they do this very well). But rather to become open to the holy spirit so we can become one with the Creator so we become the body inspired by the spirit and will of the Creator.
This is not so much a personal evolution, which is the goal of for instance satanists, but rather becoming a better tool of the Creator or a more harmonious part of the universe. It is not about power or achievement, but rather about harmony and purity.
Using more satanic methods we can rise to enlightenment and slightly beyond, but not beyond that since our own willpower prevents us from rising into areas where our own willpower is overshadowed by that of the Creator. If we make ourselves to a tool it can be that we are taken to these levels and even beyond, but as I said this can never be the purpose.

Christ, the only Begotten in the Flesh, was heir to all God the Father hath -- and the scriptures tell us we are joint-heirs with Christ. It is not an ending, but a glorious beginning and we too may lay claim upon this inheritance through the atonement of the Savior.
