is there an actual name for the unpopped popcorn?

The industry calls those unpopped kernels "widows". A recent news article said research had determined the cause of unpopped kernels was because the hulls had split and went on to say they hope to breed a more steam-proof hull so the kernel will pop. Microwave popcorn seems to be worse on the "widows".

If you don't believe me on the term, google --> popcorn + widow
