I am currently in one state but would like to move to another and I want to know if the unemployment benefits can move with me. If yes, what is the process for doing it?

In my experience your state will continue to owe the benefits unless your employment status changes, regardless of where you choose to live. if, however you start to work, even temporarily, that could change everything. I would get on your states unemployment website and spend some time on research. Every state can have different rules.

Hello Miss Me Me.
You've gotten two good answers (the third is obvious) to your question. The main thing, as has been said, is to check out everything from your state's website or talk to your Employment Commission (or your states equivalent) case worker. Ask for relevant written Employment Commission policies relating to the information you are given.
Remember, the commission is a bureaucracy and as such, tends to breed employees who are more interested in hitting the door exactly as the clock strikes 5:30 than researching what the true policies are regarding your request.
Hold their feet to the fire, so to speak, until you are certain the information your given is correct.

The Best Of The Season to you and yours,

Lenny.

Really? May you walk in our shoes someday very soon I pray so that you will realize how really judgmental and full of pride that your statement is! It is very ignorant or you to think that it cost money to move to another state and that we would do it to mooch! I am not going to waste my time to explain myself of my credentials to you - Obviously you are very young and can get a job very easily... take the time to see the generation that raised you and wiped your butt and what they are going through... why would I even think for a moment that you would care? I am 57 years old and a worthy human being with a whole lot to give a company! I will be there on time, work the hours required of me without an argument and help to grow the company that I work for. My experience with younger employees is that they think that the company owes them a living and you should be able to get away with what ever you need to in order to enjoy your life. The unemployed just simply want to have a life and not have to rely on the state to give whatever hand outs that they see fit for you! Do you not think that I want to take care of myself and to work a job without help? You will be a better person if you find yourself unable to care for yourself someday without a man or woman to take care of you and have to learn your worth as a human being simply because of your values and who you are! All I want to do is to move back to where my house is and my grown sons reside.... I miss them! It's been 5 years of paying back Chapter 13 ($1150 a month) to keep what I worked very hard for! The economy caused this and then a major flood took away the job that I had..... sometimes life just does these things... not all of us are mooching... I'd rather be working... busy and happy again! If Christ hadn't died to take away shame from us I would just say "shame on you" but I do not wish that on anyone.... all I want is for you to have to live this type of experience so that you will be a better and wiser woman someday!

Generally yes, BUT it will normally be transferred back to your old state and paid at that state's rates.

I think that if you can afford to move to another state then you shouldn't be on unemployment. Get a Job and stop mooching off everyone else.
