The salutory or honorific Doctor in front of a person's name does not tell you what they have studied or if they are qualified. Anyone with a doctoral education, including my history and english professors in college were Doctors, but I wouldn't let them twist and crank on my back. (Not that I am prone to let a chiropractor do this either). A Chiropractic Physician will have the initials DC after his/her name. When Allopathic and Osteopathic Physicians place their names on their doors or buildings, it is common for them to use MD or DO after their name, such as John Doe, M.D. or John Q. Public, D.O.. However, I have found that a large number of persons who are chiropractors, use Dr. Smith without the initials instead of John Smith, D.C..
In New York you verify licensure of a Chiropractic Physician at this site:
http://www.op.nysed.gov/opsearches.htm
Hope this helps!

You can check very quickly and easily on line. Go to New York's health professionals licensing board's on line database (see URL below) and look up your chiropractor. If not in the database WITH A CURRENT LICENSE, it's a quack.

He will have Dr. in front of his name and have a degree from a Chiropractic College. But beware. Chiropractors are not always a good treatment option. Sometimes they make things worse.

All chiropractors have a licence, so if you want to know if they are real just ask for to see there licence if they cant show it to you or have some lame excuse for why they dont have it then they are most likely a fake.

As US_DR_JD said doctor does not always mean physician, and even if they have a diploma from their chiropractic school, doesn't mean that they are currently licensed or haven't had their license revoked. Check with the Chiropractic Board for your state.

There is usually some certification from some prestigious Medical School. It has to be on display to be legit.
