My husband recently got a horrible performance review which he disagrees with whole heartedly and a 3 month probation. He really loves his job but I am wondering, is it too late? Have they already made up their minds to fire him? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

He's on the hot seat, but he needs to get through this probation period in order to have a chance at staying.

A lot depends on his boss. Sometimes this is a way to start to document a case to terminate someone. Other times its a way to open communication and give the person a chance to improve their performance. If he disagreed with the review he should have had the opportunity to write that on this paperwork. I would suggest that he talk with personnel to see what he is being expected to do. I would hope he and his boss worked out an action plan with frequent meetings to review progress. If he is unhappy with his job then this would be a good time to start looking around for another position elsewhere.

My experience is 36 years writing thousands of performance reviews both in the military and civilian work environments. Performance reviews are merely a "statement of fact" on "history work performance". It's already happened. Nothing can change it unless your lawyer can find wrongful cause for the rating. Your husband should have seen that coming. He obviously displeased management for one of several reasons. Only your husband can tell you why. Don't accept his "I love my company and I have really busted my behind for these people and this is what I get". 99% of the time that is untrue. He did something that displeased management and obviously was given a reprimand or two along the way and he failed to correct the situation. Hence, bad review and on the board to get laid off. Companies don't just go around giving out false reviews. It's legally costly in suits. Tell your husband to level with you and himself. What did he do continuously wrong or not to management's liking to bring about this report? Be honest. Tell your husband he can lie to anyone but can not lie to himself.
