I've never tried fruitcake. It just doesn't sound to appealing to me.

It is not much more than a spice cake with candied fruit mixed in.. of course liquor MAY have been added..
I have made only one and I boiled the candied fruit that was diced to really soften them..

There is very good fruitcake and very bad fruitcake. The fruitcake I make is delicious. It's important to keep it moist. That usually includes adding alcohol, either brandy, rum, or whisky. People who don't like alcohol make the mistake of thinking you can just leave it out and have an alcohol-free cake. No, you'll get a housebrick. You would need to add other moisture instead.

I love fruitcake but I also love to eat just dry fruit as well.
Dark and moist kind not the dry light kind.
There is one light fruitcake with pinapple and coconut, very moist very good.
The other thing is christmas or plum pudding - very moist varieties served warm with rum sauce.

I love fruitcake. Most people can't stand it. I'm the only one in my family who likes it. That is until I met my bf. I knew we were perfect for each other :-)

I've always prefered the West Indian version of fruit cake called Black cake. Very tasty.
