I just got back from my psych, and while things are going pretty well, I had a 'blip' (what I like to call them), and am also having some issues sleeping. So, now, my meds are:

Depakote 1000 mg/day
Lexapro 10 mg/day
Topamax (can't remember...just dropped it off at CVS)
and Zyprexa (for sleep, 5mg I think, but only as needed).

These last two are the newbies, and although not too concerned about the Zyprexa, I was wondering if anyone else has ever taken Topamax and Depakote together? Of course, I can't help myself, and needed to jump on and look up both meds, how they work, what they do, how the interact, and have now proceeded to freak myself out. lol.

Any feedback would be great!

And, I should have said that the Topamax was for my eating disorder..., which was the blip (HA - and I was doing so good! Kinda...okay, not really...O)

Marty - funny thing...that's what my psych told me! The dopa-max thing. He's so friggin awesome that way and wants me to be aware of everything. But, we thought that perhaps, even if just for a time, it may be the best thing...the eating disorder, on top of the bi-polar, is getting out of control. Thanks so much for the head's up! If I get too dopey (or dopier!), we decided we'd stop...

I'm worried a bit about taking both Depakote and Topamax at the same time as on epocrates.com it says, basically, 'proceed with caution' due to possible effects on the brain and - um, liver I want to say, but can't remember now. Anyone?

I don`t like any of the drugs you`re taking.....( my opinion). Topamax is a nasty drug.....you`ll starve to death on it, but at least it`ll counteract Zyprexa, ( which you`ll gain about a hundred pounds in the first few months). Depakote, is also one of the drugs that can cause excessive weight gain.Oh Marty B is right....you`ll loose your short term memory for awhile with Topamax. Seriously overpriced drug, with little use fullness. Why don`t you give lithium a try??? Or try Seroquel??? Both are " Gold Standard " drugs for bipolar disorder.. If you have bipolar 1.

I was on Depakote and Zyprexa and was a Zoombie. Once I got rid of the problem, I got rid of the pills. Meaning, cheating husband. LOL

I get severe migraine headaches and a neurologist offered either Topomax or Depakote. She said Topomax would make me lose weight and re other would make me gain it,
I have been on Topomax for about 2 years with no bad side effects I lost 20 pounds when I first went on it,, I have had had bo problem with it.
