I'm going to enlist in the marines soon and I was wondering how long I could enlist for. I know its in increments of 2 and that you have to serve a total of 8 years all together. I want to know if you can sign up for any number of years in active duty, like more than 8, say 10 or more.

Any information would be helpful. Thanks

your first term will be anywhere from 4-6. you can always re enlist or extend when the time comes.

Better make sure you actually LIKE being in the militray before committing a decade or more to it. it is NOT easy to just quit like a regular job when you decide you don't like it any more.

The Marine Corps does not have 2 year contracts. You can only enlist for 4 years active duty at a time. There are some MOS's that require 5-6 years of service just because the school is so long.

You have to enlist for 8 years what ever service you want to go into. As to how many years you active you are depends on your job and yourself. For example you can't be 4 years active and 4 years non-active, meaning you could be called you to service if you are needed.

your initial contract can only be a total of 8 years no matter how you split it. thats the same with any military contract. and just to let you know if you wanna get the best benefits you might want to look into other services. yeah the marines talk a lot of sh*t and have "cool" uniforms but they arent gonna give the other things like say the army can, as with the army you can get up to $40,000 in bonuses alone just for signing. you also get your choice of a job the marines can only give you a job field...theres a big difference. look at the budget differences. but if you have ur mind made up..good for you,

You can enlist in an active duty status for up to six years. If you want to be in longer than that, you have to reenlist.

I believe 8 is the limit, but you can always re-enlist as long as you don't do something dumb.

Ask your recruiter if you're enlisting soon. Alot of people on yahoo answers will give you wrong answers.
