I'm sure your mom cares. It's a very scary thing to see that someone is hurting themselves intentionally, since few people understand it. You need to speak to someone about this. A counselor at school, another adult, someone you trust who can get you help. You are right, it becomes an addiction and it's hard to quit. You need to find out why you are doing this, why you want to hurt yourself. For me, it was to relieve all of the inner turmoil I was feeling and punishment because I felt like a bad person. With help, I came to realize I'm not a bad person, and I dealt with all of the other problems I was having. Bottom line: cutting yourself is not solving your problems. You may feel better temporarily, but until you deal with what's bothering you, you have to keep doing it AND you're going to have to look at those scars the rest of your life. :( Please find someone who can get you some help. You aren't alone in this and you aren't crazy. You just need some help and it can get better.

You must find a way to stop this habit. Try to find a safe hobby. Do something constructive. I know that this sounds cliche', but you could write down your emotions in a somewhat expressive way. By writing down what you feel, it could help you to get rid of the negative energy that it causing you to put yourself through pain like self-mutilation. It can be any form of writing, it doesn't just have to be some sort of diary or journal. You could write a creative story to convey your emotions. Although writing things out doesn't strike a person as helpful at first glance, it really is, it can help to release emotions and feelings. Also, your mom probably does care, she just shows it in a different way. Try to talk to someone about your problem; try to get help. I hope this helped you, even just a little bit. Please be careful, and I hope that the self-harm issue can be solved.

It won't do anything. It is primarily a trend or the joys of rebellion.
That stuff is a bunch of bullshit.
Word of advice: Dumbasses who obviously aren't trying to kill themselves cut horizontally across their wrists- you are far more successful to do so following the vein vertically, unless you slice VERY deeply horizontally- but still, that never did jackshit for me.
Also: the most annoying thing all the goddamn teenage girls do is cut themselves on the upper side of their forearm, not their wrists or exposed veins on the underside. Now that SCREAMS attention-deprivation and extreme lack of true intent of self-harm. I pity you if this is your method.
*Best way to get the real job done is hacking the **** out of the inside of your elbow. As long as you have some sort of bloodthinners in your system, it works nicely (will need bloodthinners though. I tore mine apart and fainted but the vein clotted. Damn thing. Just kidding- I do appreciate still being here.
*Long sleeve shirts work well. Awareness of exposition of arms. Don't try cover up, particularly for fresh scars- very hard to conceal.
STOP. THINK. BE MATURE ABOUT LIFE AND HANDLE YOUR GODDAMN ISSUES RATIONALLY. Sorry, but that is my god honest opinion

G'day
Is there someone you can talk to about this? eg an aunt or uncle and then maybe get some help from a counsellor.
Cutting is not the answer. Also, is there a reason why you can't talk to your mum?

You should talk to a counselor and find another coping mechanism. It won't be easy but it will be better for you.
I'm sure your mom cares but maybe she's not quite sure how to handle it, a lot of parents react that way.
Go to Recoveryourlife.com it has coping methods and a lot of information, big forums to distract and talk about your problems.

My parents didn't really bother to do anything either when they found out. If you really want to stop then I suggest you come clean to her and go get help. That's not normally my advice to self-injurers, but you sound like someone who isn't scared to tell your mom. Just tell her, if she doesn't really care, then she'll just sign the forms to get you counseling and you can move on from this point in your life.

The emotionally immature person has low levels of self-esteem and self-confidence and consequently feels insecure; to counter these feelings of insecurity they will spend a large proportion of their lives creating situations in which they become the centre of attention. It may be that the need for attention is inversely proportional to emotional maturity, therefore anyone indulging in attention-seeking behaviours is telling you how emotionally immature they are.
Attention-seeking behaviour is surprisingly common. Being the centre of attention alleviates feelings of insecurity and inadequacy but the relief is temporary as the underlying problem remains unaddressed: low self-confidence and low self-esteem, and consequent low levels of self-worth and self-love.
Find positive ways to boost your self-esteem and gain the positive attention of your mother. Otherwise, this behavior might wind up with you killing yourself, which you obviously is not your intention.
