OK..clearly, Bully breeds fart more. They snort, and snore, and make all kinds of noise. Really, mine doesn't have a very short muzzle...and she really does not eat fast, but she MUST be taking in a LOT of air because a LOT is coming out!!

So...do Bully breeds have a high occurance of bloat???? She is getting spayed next month, is a gastropexy a good idea for her????? I have Newfs and am aware of the bloat factor with the, but I am not sure how common a concern it is in these breeds. She is an American Bulldog.

I also have an American Bulldog. And yes, gas is a factor. LOL I do not know any higher occurences of bloat in AB's, though.

I don't think a gastropexy to prevent it would really be necessary.

i have not heard of bully breeds having a higher incidence of bloat, but any deep barrel chested dog does. as far as the gastropexy, i would talk to the vet about it. sounds like a good idea as a preventative, although the recovery can be hard.

for the gas, you could try mixing doggy digestive enzymes in her food and wait 10 minutes before you feed her.

I wouldn't. But try an elevated food bowl it can also help with the air intake and gas. I wouldn't put her through any unnecessary surgery. Just be aware it can happen and be a responsible pet owner and watch for the signs.

The info I have on bloat doesnt show them as one of the high risk breeds.
