Is it possible that after Fidel Castro dies, President/Dictator Hugo Chavez of Venezuela takes over Cuba. Then he would slowly start taking over Central and South America creating an empire. After all most of Latin American is very similiar in culture and language so it would be an easy transaction. Do you think the US would intervene and prevent this from happening or will we just sit around and do nothing.

I don't see it happening. Chavez hardly has control of Venezuela, he certainly can't handle Cuba, too. Nor could he manage an invasion and takeover of the other South and Central American countries.

Besides, Fidel has already decreed that the reins of government in Cuba will be handed to his brother, Raul, upon Fidel's death.

Now, there may be an alliance . . . oh, wait, there already IS an alliance between Cuba and Venezuela. And they haven't managed to bring down the US or any other Central American nations yet.

An interesting question... Not very likely, but interesting. First of all, I don't think that Chavez has the military arsenal to take over Cuba. I don't think that it is in Venezuela's self interest. Though the country might be flush with cash due to high oil prices, Venezuela is hardly the world power that can take over other countries, especially an island nation when Venezuela is not a naval power.

However in an unlikely scenario Chavez does take Cuba, US will not stand quietly. It is right in their back yard and despite fighting wars in Iraq and Affghanistan, America is more than capable of projecting power in the Americas.

Fairly absurd scenario. It's just too much of a stretch.

Venezuela has a hard time occupying Venezuela.

Besides, only America wants to rule the American hemisphere. No other country has ever expressed an interest in doing so.

A more plausible scenario would be: what if America seizes Cuba, would South America unite against it?

If Chavez were to invade some small latin American democracy/country, the U.S. would have a 3 day Grenada type war and clear out Chavez's regime. That would be too close to home and for security purposes we need to keep Chavez in check because of his hatred towards us and his alliance w/ Ahmadenijad(Iran's pres.)

comment to "Me" so by saying we are imperialist and Chavez is not, do you support Chavez?

Chavez was just defeated in his own country on a platform for indefinite re-election, where have you been? If he can not turn his own country into a monarchy, how in the hell is he going to do it in other countries? He is a ^%^(# idiot.

I think many of the SA countries have enough pride in their country and heritage that they wouldn't allow a "take over" anyway... so no worries!
