It's not all ungodly and you will not go to hell. I listen to all types except ones with explicit lyrics--so listen away I say! I tend to want songs with positive messages so hard rock is usually out as well, except for some of the classics.
Don't NOT feel so hemmed in! You have much more freedom that they are trying to tell you. If you continue to feel uncomfortable, please seek out another church that is Biblically-based but more accepting.

Well, that might be a little harsh to say, but- in a way- it's true. If your music has un-godly messages, such as getting drunk, killing or, intimacy in it, than it's un-godly. If your music talks about life and the struggles or good times in it, and there's no obscene things or swearing in it, than it's fine. Christians don't HAVE to listen to Christian music. Where you go after you die doesn't really depend on the music you listen to as long as it's clean.

No music is automatically good or evil. It's just the message that may cause you to stray from God's path set for you. Let's see, for a starters, when people tell you that rock music guitars are 'pure evil' don't listen. Noise isn't evil.

I think God would like us to listen to music that is uplifting and positive. Music that is negative and inappropriate puts those thoughts into our heads. I would just ask your self if you would listen to any of that music if God was sitting next to you? Also, I think its wrong for your church to tell you you are going to hell for listening to that kind of music. If they believe its wrong, talking to you about it is one thing, but they are not the ones who decide where we go after we die so they shouldnt pretend they know.

pop, rap, and hip-hop are among the music types that preach immoral values, including promiscuity, gang activity, racism, immodesty, and the list goes on.
A kid at my school did an experimant where mice were put in their cages and then music was played nearby. Those that I listed caused the mice to bite, freak out, and not eat.
The other kinds, (country, religious, traditional/folk) caused the mice to behave the opposite.

I am a chrisitan and i listen to different type of music. My pastor says that it isnt the type of music you listen, it is what you do with the music. If you praise the music by listening to it constantly and worshiping it, then it is bad. however, just listening to it wont make you are better chrisitan or a worst christian

God cares about everything, you are that special.
Do you mean does God care about who or what is edified by the type of music we listen to? I would say yes.

God inhabits the praises of His people. Why not put on a little bit more worship music so you could feel his presence. All those genre's you mentioned, they have christian music. As far as going to hell for it, i don't think so.
As you grow in the Lord, you'll want to do things that please Him. Praising Him is one way.

Well I am sure God does not approve of any music that has fowl language or talks of hate or killing or any kind of abuse. You need to really consider what music you listen to.
