The package insert says it is a possible side effect of the drug, not that it WILL happen. Your doctor should be monitoring your blood test results for indicators of liver disfunction.

I used statins for a number of years. Liver problems were not the reason I stopped taking them, severe muscle tenderness and weakness was the cause of discontinuance.

they certainly can, that is why you should have your liver function tested every six months while taking statins.

It's possible.... but that is why you have blood work done to check the status of your Cholesterol and the status of your liver.
