I gave my puppy to a friend. He's AKC registered. But I lost the registration papers! I don't care if it costs money to recover the papers. My friend is giving the dog to her dad. Her dad is a dog breeder, and he NEEDS the papers immediately before he starts using him as the stud.
I don't know what to do for the registration papers. He really does need them, and I've been dicking around for 11 months trying to get ahold of them.
The dogs 'parents' have their papers too. They're both AKC registered...
Come to think of it, I don't even remember if the dog I gave away has papers on him!!
I need some desperate help, how do I find out if the dog has papers? If he doesn't, then how do I get papers on him??
Help!! PLEASE!

*If this dog does not have papers, the only way you can get them is from his breeder....if they registered the litter. If you don't have them on the dog, you may not be able to get them!!

If a dog's individual registration application has been lost, the litter owner must contact the AKC to request a duplicate. The litter owner will need to submit a Duplicate Dog Registration Application or provide the following:
* A brief statement requesting a duplicate registration application
* Litter number, breed and date of birth
* Litter owner's name, address and signature
* Sex of dog the duplicate application is for
* $15.00 processing fee
If the litter number is unknown, provide the following in its place:
* Names, registrations numbers, and breed of the sire and dam
* Date of birth of the litter
A new registration application will be mailed to the litter owner when the request is processed.
If you are successful in doing this, the next step in breeding responsibly is proving the dogs merit through competition or actual working conditions, passing health clearances like hips, eyes and heart certifications and finding the right female who also meets the above mentioned requirements.
There are many poorly bred dogsin this world, so if it isn't going to be done correctly, it shouldn't be done at all.
If your dog doesn't have papers, there is no possible way to get them now.

Contact the AKC. However, without having all of the information (registration number, DOB, registration number of the parents, ect) they will most likely not be able to help you.
If you never sent the papers in to have the registration put into your name, you are most likely S-O-L. Most breeders aren't going to just go out of their way to hand you another set of papers, especially knowing that the dog is now at a third home.

You can call them or visit their web site at www.akc.org
If you have the id # of the parents located on their AKC papers or know their registered name there should be no problem getting new or replacement papers for your puppy no matter what his age.

youd have to call the akc office with both the dogs parents akc numbers (which youd have to call the origional breeder for
as a side note, just because the dog is akc registered and purebred does NOT mean he should automaticallty be used as a stud!
what kind of showing and health tests does her father "the breeder" do
if he cant answer that he shouldnt be breeding!
