I would go a little north and look at the landings in Oxnard and Ventura. For a charter like you are wanting to do, CISCO'S in Oxnard would be my first choice. More variety of year round fishing options and boats to chose from. The only other would be Marina Del Rey, but the quality of fishing and boats won't match going further north. From the valley where you are the 1 hour drive would be worth it. I live in the SF valley also.

You can theoretically charter a boat out of any sportfishing landing, but if you charter an open party boat it may cost you more than a smaller charter boat.

In the area you mentioned, Malibu Pier has a single boat (usually open party), while Marina Del Rey has several boats. There are also charter boats out of Redondo, or the L.A. Harbor area, or to the north, Port Hueneme, Channel Islands, Captain Hook's, all in Ventura County.

MDR is a stone's throw from Santa Monica. in case you are able to locate the money for it, decide for it. you're in-state, top? or you will pay the out of state fee, that's approximately thrice the community fee.
