God placed the first human couple in a paradise garden and instructed them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:27, 28)

There was no need to rush. They had all eternity to have children.

And really we need not wonder about the "marital affairs" of Adam and Eve, just as we should not meddle in the affairs of married Christians today.

"Why they did not have intercourse and produce children during their stay in the garden of Eden is their own personal affair."

(Wink, wink)

Adam was the very first "health and safety" admin officer and deemed it unsafe to procreate in the garden for fear of being approached by a snake offering apples of doubtful vintage. Eve, on the other hand, got "condone" mixed up with "condom" and insisted that Adam quickly invented one to wear before the deed was done. So confused was he that in a moment of hunger he ate the apple proferred by the snake, Eve in the meantime found said condom then applied it to the appropiate part. 3 minutes later she was back tending to the garden, after first burying the condom. Thereby growing the seeds of the very first condominium......the rest is history!! That is the answer!!!!

i believe they did and they had many children for 2 reasons. (1) where did the other people come from that Cain came into contact with? adam and eve could have been in the garden millions of years or a few days before they sinned, their ages weren't recorded until after they were kicked out
(2) god said he was going to increase eve's pain in childbirth, if she had never had children before, how could he increase the pain?

Because Eve tempted Adam to eat the forbidden fruit and left the Garden of Eden before they had children

It was only after eating the apple that Eve knew about the use of Adam's tool. By that time they were already expelled from the garden. Eve found a solitary place elsewhere where she taught Adam the ABCD of procreation procedure.

They did have children in the Garden of Eden.
When God told them to be fruitful and multiply, Eve didn't turn to Adam and say, "I'm hungry, let's go eat first." We don't know how long they were in the Garden prior to eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The second piece of evidence is found in Genesis 3:16 "To the woman he said, 'I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing: with pain you will give birth to children. . .'"
In order to greatly increase something, there has to be a starting point. Mathematicians will tell you that you can not multiply something with nothing. Second is the term "pains" pluralized, meaning that there was already pain there.
God increased something that she had already felt. Therefore, she had already given birth to children.

How could anyone know the answer to that !! Most likely they weren't in the Garden long enough. Adam did name her 'Eve' because she was the mother of all the living. Perhaps she was expecting when he named her. She must have had a name before she had a child.

They were cast from the Garden before they had a chance. Here's a tougher question: If Adam and Eve are the mother and father of us all, who procreated with Cain and Abel?

I like what the previous guy said, "they sinned before they got around to it." That's great and true! Anyway, they didn't have children in the garden b/c they were kicked out before they could have children.
