Religon is the cause of hatred pain and suffering worldwide. Suicide bombers in the middle east kill massive amounts of people in the name of Allah. Christians murder abortion doctors, and incite hatred toward sexual and racial minorities, and try to stiffle scientific progress by pushing creation myths on children. Hindus fight muslims. Religon is nothing but trouble. Shouldn't we demand its forced abolishion.

It's not impossible. Goverments could seize all property owned by churches. Arrest religous leaders, send people to reeducation camps to brainwash them into giving up there neanderthals beliefs in a higher power. Goverments can hand down the death penalty for those who refuse to comply.

you sound like a Fascist to me. How would you like it if Atheism were banned? I say, ban censorship! Leave people alone to believe what they want. There are *assholes* in all religions.

Religion is one thing. The truth behind it is another. Although it is true that it has caused much hardship, murder and etc. it is the zealots that cause all the horrors.

I am a major atheist, but my reasons are more than the need for evidence, my primary reasons are that I studied the subject - I've looked into the early civilizations and their beliefs and understand that gods were always worshiped, but understood in different ways all having different values. The one deity of today is outdated - even the oldest of the old always updated their deities to higher standards as time progressed. Today's deity is nothing more than an outdated concept. Unfortunately all the believers of today are reluctant in learning or even finding the smallest truth causing the turmoil of the religions that we have today.

I would simply suggest that any religion worth its salt start teaching the truth about the bible. Start having educational classes on how it all began, who the writers of the bible actually were [dubious] and go from there. Making the believers feel unworthy and without morals save their faith is a falsehood and the truth is the only way to rid the misconceptions of the religions that we know of today.

It is impossible. According to the constitution Church and State are Separate. So unless the constitution changes, the government cannot seize a Church's property. Sorry.

First of all, you are confusing religion, and extremists religious people. It's not the religion causing those awful things, it is the individual people within the religion who are doing them. The people who do those things are extremists, not true believers. There is a difference.

I do see your point though. I have said that very thing before. What needs to happen is open and respectful dialog between all religions to show some kind of unity. To show we can come together even though we believe different things, we still believe in a creator, we still believe in a ultimate power (God), we all pray, we all go to church services, we all celebrate holidays, we all have a type of bible, a kind of prophet. In other words, on the most basic level, all religions are pretty much the same. The differences come out in the way we choose to practice that faith, and on the hierarchical structure as well.

We shouldn't abolish religion, as it is healthy for people. But there definitely needs to be some showing of unity, because we are all people of God no matter what religion we practice, we came from the same thing.

I am an atheist, first of all. I think that's a bit absurd. To be honest though, I know it would do our country and our species well. But what do Atheists hate most? Christians, looking down at us. We're seen as the bad people, when we are just standing up for what we believe in - isn't that what people of other religions are doing as well? Why pick on us? Because at least the other people have something to worship, us 'terrible atheists' on the other hand just don't believe in anything, and thats just unacceptable.

Like I said, I know what you suggested would help our country, but I do not support. I think everyone should have full freedom to believe what they want, and happily practice it however they wish.

We've seen in the former Soviet Union what governmental controls on every aspect of daily life did. The Soviet Union was a very backward country technologically. They were only able to keep up in the defense area by throwing 10 times what the rest of the world did into their defense budgets and research. In a sociolgical sense, a free society will prevail because it provides more advantage. The rest of the world is not free society, one can not bend religion, politics, sexualtiy to one's will by force of arms. You'd spend all your time looking over your shoulder instead of doing something productive. In America, we need to support the rights of free speech etc. There are limits, the president clearly saw what terrorism was doing world wide and understood that terrorism needed to be defeated, not the religion, but those that use religion for their own power gains. He decided they would be fought on the ground of his chosing--and for all the hooplah--he's right.

Why ban religion when it is only the radicals that kill?

Radical politics has also been the reason for mass murders, genocides and the like, and no-one wants to ban politics.

Extreme driving causes accidents, no-one wants to ban driving. Well at least no-one with half a brain.

It's a case of banning the actions that cause the deaths, including the training of radical militants. And that is already the case in many countries. As it should be. It's called conspiracy to murder.

Yes we should ban all religion...

That way the millions of people who are feed everyday by Christians groups like Samaritans Purse, Sister's of Mercy, Salvation Army, rescue missions and shelters, etc all across the world could starve to death. Would decrease the surplus population.

That way the thousands in impovered nations who are helped every year by missionary doctors for free could continue to live in pain, sickness, disease and deformity. Suffering is good for people.

That way the millions of children who are offered safety in Christian orphanges and mission schools all across the globe could continue to live on the streets in poverty and ignorance with no future to their lives. We need an underclass or there would be no one to exploit in sweatshops and the like.

That way the victims of disasters would have no food, water, shelter, clothing, or other assistence from Salvation Army and hundreds of similar Christian groups and churches in the times of disaster. They can wait around 6 months for FEMA to send them a few dollars. What did they need food for, they are probably overweight.

After all, religion is the cause of every war

Like the Revolutinary war....no that was about taxes, land, and independence
The French and Indian War ... no that was about land and commerce
The Spanish-American War ... no that was about land
The War of 1812 ... that was about land
The Civil War ... that was about state's rights and slavery
The First World War ... no that was about land in Europe
The Second World War ... no that was about land, power and defending out nation from direct attack
Korea .... political and economic systems
Vietnam ... political and economic systems
The Gulf War ... money and oil
The current war ... money and oil

Remind me how religion is bad and the cause of all killings and wars?

Are you serious....how about we ban everything else that is freedom of choice? How does that sound! No matter what the world is going to have killings, rapist, judgement of others and many more things. But why take away something that was faught for? Religion isn't going to solve the problem..nothing will. Its the way man is...
sorry live with it...its not great I agree but no reason to take something away that people love in their lives!
Religion is the cause of good and evil it depends on the person and what they do with their knowledge... it has nothing to do with teachings!

Toby, You have to ask yourself, if people actually abided by the precepts of their religion would the word be a better or worse place. I think that it would be a better, more moral place. Its always the Zealots who go overboard and take things to extremes. Look at the Xenophobia of Japan or Germany in WWII. No one was more amoral than Adolph Hitler and he murdered millions of Jews. Hirohito murdered thousands and thousands of Chinese and made Chinese women work in comfort stations. Ghenghis Khan likewise murdered millions. Its not the religion that promulgates bad behavior its the zealots who dont allow for others to have an opinion, also.

RELIGION isn't the cause of hatred, pain and suffering. It's the people that believe in the different religions and what they take from them. I happen to believe in God, but I don't go to church. I don't like all the hypocrites!

I've never killed anyone, thought about killing anyone, nor would I EVER contemplate killing anyone in the name of religion. I think it's possible for people to have a religion and still be a decent person.

I just wish some would quit shoving it down other's throats!
