The oldest religion is shamanism, and dates back to when humans were cave dwellers. The shaman in the community served as religious leader as well as medical consultant and a host of other roles. Cave paintings depict animal worship, which was mediated through the shaman. This was the first religion, before humanity reached civilization (as defined by stationary living). Survival was immediate and was determined by the availability of food, thus animals were central to the religion. Fertility based religions that focused on crops and sun worship came after humans transitioned from hunter-gatherers to those practicing agriculture. When humans discovered that they could plant their own food, they then saw the sun as a central concept to the continuation of life, and crop abundance was associated with fertility. You can research shamanism on the web and get tons of info. Forms of this religion still exist today, making it the oldest religion in the world.

Christianity came before judaism, and Islam. That would be the oldest religion, christianity comes from the ancient egyptians spiritual way of life and out of that the Greeks and Romans created Serapis and their own religion around it by taking from the egyptian deities. Look it up, Serapis is what jesus based off of historically. Not biblically.

Hinduism.
Look at India and other countries. They worship many God(s) and Goddess(es).
Then Buddhism came on the scene after Siddhartha Guatamana (I think I spelled it wrong) saw the evils or whatever in the world.
The monotheistic religion that came first was Judaism, then Christianity, and finally Islam.

Many primitive cultures practiced shamanism or a form of magic which if you look up in the dictionary, is very similar to the definition of religion. They were animistic, which means they believed spirits lived in everything; animals, rocks, trees, rivers, the air, etc. and would perform rituals and give offerings to these various spirits in the hopes of gaining favor from them.
Hinduism is the oldest religion still in practice, dating over 5000 years ago and is considered the "mother of all religions."

Everybody has different answers, but the first 'organized' religion was the Mesopotamian religion. Mesopotamians had a polytheistic belief system, which means that the people believed in multiple gods instead of just one. They also believed in demons created by the gods, which could be good or evil.

There are 2 that we know are super old, Judaism and Hinduism(that are still around). In my religion 101 book, it had a diagram, both Judaism and Hinduism went past pre-recorded history.
Some think it's Hinduism because there was a book written in like 12K BC or something...I'm not sure what that is about, but you can google it.

Still practiced today is Hindu. But Dravidianism (the basis of Hinduism) "was estimated to have been practiced around 6000 to 3000BCE and as such predates Sumerian, Egyptian and Babylonian cultures." But I'm sure that primitive man had a nature and/or sun worship thousands of years before.
