Some feel, either through altruism or misperception, that what they're doing is best and what they feel makes them and those around them "happy", and some people want to share that... others... well... you know the story.

It's not just about religion (I've been pressured to listen to the music other people love, or to read their favourite authors), but there's more pressure around the revealed religions because their adherents 1.) believe that those who do not belong to their religion will suffer the tortures of the damned if they do not convert, and 2.) believe that their deity will punish them if they do not proselytize.

Because people don't just 'appreciate' a religion, they believe it to be true. Truth is an objective quality, if something is true then it's true for everyone and if it's false then it's false for everyone.
If a god exists, then everyone who doesn't believe in that god is wrong. But the fact that I like a certain kind of music certainly doesn't mean that other people don't like different kinds of music.

What does the one have to do with the other? Its like asking, "Everyone likes food, so why do some people work in uranium mines?"
Obviously, people promote their religion because they believe they have attained something infinitely valuable that they can give to another person. That's it - no more complicated than that.

I don't want others to accept that I am a Christian, but I do not like it when I am ripped apart for my beliefs, I don't rip apart atheists etc. I appreciate other cultures etc. I pray daily for the non believers, not because I am forcing my beliefs, but because I am a Christian

Why is it that people like you seem to think that a simple act of witnessing, of offering you something of value, is "trying to force it down your throat"? Did they grab your arm and hold you there while they ranted on about their beliefs? Did they follow you around like a puppy, refusing to leave you alone when you requested it? Or did they just happen to mention it in passing, or write about it here on Y/A?

Music doesn't make people believe that all those listening to different music are evil.

Music does nothing have to do with your eternal destiny. Your analogy is flawed seeing that in the spiritual world there is a warfare going on, and people's souls are being killed by a very real enemy.
Ezekiel 18:32
"For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord GOD. “Therefore turn and live!”

I will not sit here behind my puter nor sit in any ones face and shove my Faith down someones throat.
So No, NO one should shove God or the Lack of a God, down any ones throat

Because there's no John Lennon all over my laws. Or Adam Duritz. Or Mozart.
Just one particular god.
