im totally with you! however, i dont agree with parents staying at home and clening the house and looking after kids if they are doing it on benefits, i think its important to be a role model for children and if you scrounge off the taxpayer, your children will do the same!

You sound like either a single-stay at home mum OR your mum is a stay at home mum.
Let's get it right...not all people who don't work are 'slobs', there are a lot of people who want to work but cant because of ill health and the like.
I deal with many people who live a frustrated life because their disability makes it difficult, if not impossible to work, they are therefore, in your eyes, 'slobs'.
I do agree that there are a lot of people who abuse the system and are quite capable of working but choose to milk the system but do not tar everyone with the same brush.
It is up to the government to route these scroungers out and force them to get back to work so the genuine disabled people do not feel that they are abusing the system.
The worse thing is that anyone at anytime can become to disabled to work and therefore in need of financial help from the government, even you, it only takes an illness or an accident to be in that position.
So stop accusing all those who don't work as being 'slobs' until you grow up a little and realise that some people are simply not fit enough to work.

I have been very lucky in that from the day I left school until the day I took early retirement I never ever had a single day of unemployment. That was for a period of 44 years.
The brother of a friend has had the same period of time worked about five years in total and over the last six years about 7 weeks. He will have the same government pension as me plus various other benefits to a point at which he is little worse off than I am. I do wonder at times if accepting the occasional humiliation and often inconvenience of full time employment to support a family was in fact worth it

Tax goes on slobs? apreciate? critisim? I think our tax dollars that go to public education were wasted on you, my dear.
I don't get the impression that many of my tax dollars go to people who just sit around and watch tv all day. I'm sure there are a few people out there who scam the government out of money. I would rather put up with a few scammers than think our government isn't helping out people who actually need and deserve it.
I agree with Gary, also, our government is spending outrageously huge amounts of money to fight a losing war in Iraq and our soldiers are coming home to poor benefits and a joke of a GI Bill. I would rather we stop pumping money into Halliburton and the other multi-national corporate scammers - and take care of our soldiers, their families, and the rest of our fellow citizens.

In June my Mum kindly offered to let a family friend and her 12 year old son stay with us as she had split from her husband of 20 years and had nowhere to live.
She is 46 and has never worked a day in her life, even though there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. My mum has even offered her work to get her started, but she just comes up with excuses, she said it means she'll get less benefits, and turns her nose up because she thinks she's better than the jobs offered to her. When infact she is just a lazy cow.
It annoys me everyday when I leave for work and see her sitting there knowing that effectively, IM paying for her to doss about all day through the taxes I pay.
she never contributes anything to the house. And we havnt had any rent for 3 months. My Mum won't make her leave as she will be homeless and doesn't want any tension because they are friends.
I personally want to give her a kick up the backside and give her a wake up call.

I agree, I am currently at home with my 17mth old Daughter but I work 4 nights a week just because I feel I should not rely on my partner to make all the money. Before that I worked full time and had a friend who did diddly squat yet ended up with more money in her bank account every month!!

You have to get away from this notion that people who are unemployed want to be. I have been unemployed before and it's frustrating and makes you feel worthless. Fair enough there maybe a minority out there that like being on the dole, but they are not as many as the former.
If you want to complain about where your tax goes, look at the billions, yes billions of pounds we spent on a war with iraq. Also, undoubtedly millions of pounds is wasted on so many other things. Stop complaining about some person getting 40 quid a week and look elsewhere to tax wastage.

Well if you feel like that is the problem then why don't you figure out how to determine who is actually struggling and who is just sitting at home? The gov. hasn't been able to do it, so why don't you just help them out. I'm sure everyone feels the same way you do, the problem has long been established. Everyone just likes to complain though instead of finding a solution.

there is some of that to be sure, but the vast amount of tax money goes into the pockets of politicians and big business. the politicians offer tax breaks to big business (in the billions) and the businesses donate to pet projects of politicians. and the citizens pay the bill. schools, health care, roads, welfare, etc. is a drop in the bucket compared to what they steal from us on a daily basis
