Just within the past few days he's started drooling and his mouth and nose are all crusty and black/brown. Then this morning, he was cleaning himself and his hair was just coming out in clumps, and he has open skin sores. He's an outside cat, and when I try to pet him or pick him up, he ducks or moves to avoid my touch. He usually loves to be petted and scratched. I'm worried about him, but won't be able to take him to the vet for about a week. Does anyone have any idea? For now, I'm just trying to keep my dogs away from him in case it's a communicable disease or something.

I can't take him to the vet, because THE VET said to come in a week. It wasn't my choice. Apparently they're booked solid. There's only one vet for quite a distance out here. Plus, he's technically not my cat. His owners didn't take care of him and he took to me instead. I have arranged to take him 60 miles to an emergency animal hospital later today. So everyone accusing me of animal abuse and whatnot can back the hell off.
Thanks to those who didn't freak out.

It is hard to say. Is your pet up to date on his vaccines. If he is then we can cross out rabies and kennel cough, stuff like that. Could just be a kitty cold. He could have got in a bad fight that is getting infected. Call the vet and see what they recommend. Sorry about your kitty. Good luck!
(hey thumb downers! I am just trying to help out. Not everyone has the money right away for vet bills. {although I do think those people shouldn't have pets either})Oh well.

This poor cat won't be alive in a week for you to take to the vet!!!! There are many different things that could be causing these symptoms. Has this cat been vaccinated?? He could have gotten into something poisonous (will cause drooling sometimes), he could also have a very bad viral infection. Either way, no matter what this cat NEEDS TO SEE A VET NOW!!!
If you can't take care of him properly then turn him over to the local shelter or find someone who can!

It relies upon on the area. If the canines is whelping a clutter of domestic dogs or a cat has somewhat diarhhea then the 1st selection could be to shield it at abode to work out if the area gets greater efficient. And whilst waiting human beings can ask different puppy proprietors in the event that they have any concepts on the thank you to handle the subject and ask for prevalent suggestion. If it does not get greater efficient then the subsequent selection is the vet. some human beings do have some hum dingers at right here, yet for the main section the questions are solid, valid ones.

I don't understand why you can't take him to the vet now. Why do you have to wait a week? If you can't get into your normal vet you need to go to the emergency hospital. He needs medical attention immediately. If you're not willing to do that for him you should take him to the nearest no kill shelter and turn him over to them. They will get him treatment and find a good home for him.

Maybe he ate something poisoneous if it seems to have started all of a sudden . You obviously care about the cat or you would not be driving 60 miles to day to have him looked at . I hope it is nothing serious and can be dealt with medication . Good luck, and never mind what others say .

This a joke, a week? You need to take him the the humane society then and let them treat him and find him a better home. He's in pain from god only knows what, open sore sound like abscess, drool and discharge infection (tooth or abscess in mouth). From the sounds of it, he's not goin be here in a week. Would you like to suffer and with open sores, discharge from your mouth and nose, and don't want to be touched due to u being in pain??????????

He's very sick and a week is too long!
He needs a vet NOW or he may not be alive in a week's time!
It's serious and needs to be tended to and anti-biotics or...? administered by vet!
Get off computer and take poor kitty IMMEDIATELY.

Please don't wait a week to take your cat to the vet. He's in serious need of medical attention. Find a way to get him there. This sounds very serious.
