To me?
"Final religious authority"?
NONE! There is NO "final" as life is a continuous cycle of birth and death. The Spiritual realm is infinite.
When we "transition", {pass on} we join all the energies of the universe, as equals, with none in "charge".
As we walk in this illusion called life, we are our own authority.
Given the greatest gift, choice, we may choose what path to follow or make our own path.
Either way, it is a personal choice, not open to judgment or opinion of others, unless you CHOOSE to accept someone Else's choice or a self help book, like the "Bible".

God is the only 'final religious authority' to me ... I'm now a Catholic and happy in my church, but in my view, to be a 'good church' it should not 'fit perfectly' because if I don't 'grow and learn' then I am stagnating. I know I'm going to Heaven, I know my husband will be there with me, and I KNOW that ALL OF US will eventually go to Heaven ... but I still desire to learn and grow and worship God differently than even most other Catholics do. I was a Vedantist, a Vietnamese Buddhist, a Unitied Methodist, an Episcopalian, and ALMOST became a 'converted Jew' and I still 'believe' ALL of those religions, and non of them 'conflict' with my 'present religion' ... because my 'ultimate religious authority' has always been JUST GOD.

My Holy Guardian Angel. To sin is to not follow your Wyrd. (Path) I can only judge my own sins. That doesn't mean a lawless society, because laws aren't decided on sin. Laws can still be applied to anything that harms another.

There is no authority in religion, just the delusion of authority which in turn directly causes a superiority complex.
