The tape does not have any PAL or NTSC distinction until you record on them. So if you want to buy a tape in the USA and then to to Europe and record and play it there it will not be any problem. But if you buy the tape in the USA record on it here with a typical NTSC VHS Recorder you will not be able to play it on the European PAL player.

The tape is the same but record time is not the same, that is why the packaging is different. A tape sold in the USA as a T120 (2 hour) will play for longer time in a PAL recorder.

Many European PAL VCRs can in fact 'play' NTSC tapes - providing it is connected to a 'NTSC compatible' television - which again many are.

We are more 'wordly aware' in Europe and cater for different TV systems - the same does NOT appear to be true in the USA - very few NTSC VCRs will allow you to view PAL tapes.
