Back then they had savage sporting events such as fighting animals. So it's more than likely an analogy to when the animal(lion for example) gets the better of a man and feast on his dead carcus.

"Fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" Matthew 10:28;5:30
"...for there shall be ashes on the souls of your feet in the day I shall do this" Malachi 4:1,3
This is evidence that our physical bodies will be cast into hellfire, not just our souls.
*Try to imagine the sorrow that God will feel when He has to destroy the children He once died for. But destroying Satan, his angels and the wicked is the only way to get rid of sin and make the world safe for all eternity.
Read:
1-"So shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity shall be cast into the furnace of fire" Matthew 13:40-42 "The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" John12:48
2-"The hour is coming, in which all that are in their graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good to resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" John 5:28-29
*When wicked realize their fate and what they have lost, there will be gnashing of teeth. They gave up peace, happiness, and love, for despair and destruction.God will rain down fire from heaven upon the earth, and the wicked will perish. This fire is what the Bible describes as hellfire.

Your understanding of hell is not biblical. Then, the term "gnashing of teeth" is a metaphor and refers to cursing. People who will be sent to their destruction (Matthew 10:28) in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:15), will curse God until their existence is no more. And therefore, those sent to complete and utter destruction in the Lake of Fire, will not have teeth for long, because they will soon become "ashes under the soles of [the saint's] feet" (Malachi 4:3).

It's a Biblical derivative of "There will be great lamentations and gnashing of the teeth... (paraphrased; I don't carry a Bible in My pocket for direct quotes, it gives me hemorrhoid's!)
"Gnashing of the teeth" is what some of these rabid Fanatics make Me feel like doing!

No. Everyone will be given an eternal body. Where that body spends eternity is the issue.
Matthew 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

That's funny.
There will be no gnashing of (non-existent) teeth. No physical body will exist after one exits the physical plane.
