As a secretary, that is part of my job. Heck, I've even picked up his drycleaning before. Basically I am his go-fer, as well as running the office.

Think about what might happen if you are "chilling" and you get in an accident. Your boss sees that the location of the accident is not on the route from work to where you were to pick up the check.

So your boss says you were obviously not on work time, and the company is not liable. Now you have to go through your own insurance, and probably get fired.

Is it worth it?

I don't know what you mean by "chill and drive around." If you mean waste some time before picking up the check, it is unethical and unprofessional. Of course you should do what your employer asks. It does not seem like a task unsuitable for a secretary.

This is when you really have to look into your work ethics. If you decide to just waste time driving, you are basically cheating your company of money - the time you are using when you could be producing. These are the type of situations that will either make you or break you. You have to decide if you're just in this for the ride or you really want to do something with your career.

Wow, and someone like you has a good job. Unreal. First of all, your title is SECRETARY (or in your case, worthless goldbricker) and second, "vacation" has only ONE "C". You are unprofessional, thoughtless, immature and unappreciative of having a job in the first place...you're very lucky I don't know who you are or who your employer is because I'd tell him in a heartbeat and get you fired. But you'll do that yourself, no doubt, before long. Have a nice day!

I would. Depends on what kind of an employee you are. My boss is on vacation and I am going to the post office to pick up checks and then to the bank to deposit them. I have a really great employer and they treat me very well.

If you take any pride on your job, I'd act like he wasn't on vacatiuon.

Lol, well if you think you can get away with it, or want to be fired, then why not.
