I'm a big proponent of the Silpat baking mats... you lay them over your cookie sheet and you never have to grease it or use parchment paper. Baked goods slide right off and come out perfectly. It's very easy to wash and store as well... a must-have! Also a cast-iron stew pot is essential to any kitchen, and Macy's carries a Martha Stewart brand model that's very affordable. They are perfect for searing, stewing and slow-cooking.

A top quality Pan or good Knife is always a nice gift for a cook.

I like Le Creuset Pans or All Clad pans. Sebatier or henkle knives. The Japanese style santoku knife is one of my favorites and is probably different than what she has.

It's not exactly new, but does she have a digital kitchen scale? My hubby got me one for Christmas to replace my spring scale and I'm totally in love with it! It's small, lightweight, has tare, and converts grams and ounces. I think it was only $25 and it's my best gift so far!
