I did take college courses while in the Navy. On ships underway and deployed, there are college afloat programs, You take the courses in your off-hours. In-port the Navy Campus office offers credit by examination, and I even managed to take university courses at U.W. while on shore duty, using the G.I. bill. If you are determined enough, you can do it.

Furthering your education is highly recommended in all the services. They even pay for it and allow you to go to school after work. The Navy would probably be the most difficult if you are assigned to a ship but even the ships deploy with college professors to give some classes.
Look up Society of Colleges for the military. The guarantee credit transfer between schools since you move around often in the military.

The Navy actually promotes higher education. Just recently, having a degree will get you points for advancement.
You can take CLEP tests to take care of most of the General Education requirements. There are many online courses that you can take as well. Your military experience counts towards some credits too. i highly suggest visiting the school that youare planning on attending and asking them some questions though. The school I am attending did not take as many credits as I thought I should have had from my military experience. i would also talk to your Command Career Counselor as soon as you get to your command and tell him/her your intentions.

You can take courses while your in the Navy and you would have the G.I. bill when you leave the military that you could use to get a degree or whatever you wanted.
