It takes as little as seconds, i say this because you can acquire a black belt fairly fast in some TKD systems. There are schools out there that handout black belts just because you put the time in and the MONEY (McDojos!). There are people that expect to become black belts within a time frame and those are the ones that are better off buying a black belt on the internet and saving some money, thus i say it takes seconds. In all reality you should take at least 2 years and that's pushing it. Remember that even though you obtain a black belt your training only begins there for all the training you do up to that point is to build that foundation need to advance further in your system. Good Luck to you and don't let the black belt be a set goal, look beyond that.

I started Tae Kwon Do when I was 5 and I was a black belt by the time I was 10. It really varies though by school.

Two to two-and-a-half years sounds about right for most American schools, assuming you train regularly. TKD awards black belts faster than some other martial arts. That's why it's not uncommon to meet 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th degree TKD black belts. Of course, the quality of training varies widely from school to school, and some TKD black belts are not really very good fighters.

A young girl named Pivak-e-Safa Kazmi was awarded Black Belt 1st Dan by PTF in 2012.
She achieved it in just SIX Months.
She comes from Shaheen TaeKwonDo Academy, Faisalabad.

This varies considerably depending upon the school you are in, the instructor you are under, and the association you are affiliated with.

I have known US servicement serving in Korea who earned 1st Dan in one year, training three times a week for about two hours a session. I have also known some indiviudals to take over 10 years to accomplish 1st Dan. It really is a personal journey as well as a product of the enviornemnt in which you train and progress.

My TaeKwon-Do club establishes a curriculum framework that requires about 3.5 to 4 years in order to earn 1st Dan. Some students who commit and dedicate themselves are able to progress slightly faster and many take a year or two longer due to time away or other committments that limit their progress.

As others have rightly said however, it is the physical, mental, and spiritual journey that determines when one is truly ready to attain the belt and rank. The belt and rank are merely outward symbols of the inner journey that must be undertaken. That inner journey will vary considerably from student to student, even within the same curriculum or school.

Your best advice is to keep advancment in your mind as your goal, and to continue training, practicing, attending classes, and asking as many questions as you can. As you steadily progress, you will earn the rank and titles as they are due you.

Once you earn 1st Dan, some association will have minimum limits on when dan advancement can occur, and others will not.

Good luck in your continued journey,

That depends on you and your school's testing regime. Some schools test whenever you are ready, and others test on a prearranged schedule. I have a black belt and it took me about two years. You should ask your sensi what the schedule is going to be

it depends connor on many things-your ability determination good tuition. but most importantly only take a simsa (grading test) when you feel you are ready to take it not when someone tells you are when you are mentally ready you will succeed-as for the time span you never stop learning-even as a dan-figure on 5-7 years at two times a week attendance (2 hour sessions=total four hours).

Usually it takes 4 years of pure dedication. But as you all know, styles have their "own" way when it comes to ranking.Dont worry about the belt, stay focus and master the basic techniques and eventually you'll be a more better and well "educated" martial artist who doesn't limit their skills in to one."Absorb what is usefull, and reject what is useless"-Bruce Lee, Tao of Jeet Kune Do
