Happy Holidays is just the polite thing to say. You want to wish someone well, since this is a happy and friendly time of year, but you can't assume to know what their religion is. It's not about being "politically correct," and there is no "war on Christmas." It's just that there are many more religions than Christianity, and you can't just assume that everyone is Christian anymore.

No, because Thanksgiving comes right before Christmas and everyone says "Happy Thanksgiving". New Year comes after Christmas and they say "Happy New Year". Christmas is the ONLY holiday that is represented by "Happy Holidays".

By the way, only Christmas celebrates the birth of the Savior, none of the others do.

"Happy Holidays" only came about because of the irrational fear that a few people have about Jesus. What are they so afraid of? You people make me laugh at your childishness.

We can indeed say all of that, or just "Happy Holidays."

But you must first recognize that this time of year is largely recognized and celebrated because of Christmas. None of those other holidays would be as large on their own were it not for Christmas. Even Chanukah is one of Judaism's minor holidays, not a major one like Christmas is to Christians.

And for all of us Christians? LIGHTEN UP! Christmas may be our religious holiday, but New Year's belongs to everyone regardless of faith.

"HAPPY HOLIDAYS" is a perfectly acceptable greeting from a stranger !

Happy Holidays has 5 syllables.

Merry Christmas has 4 syllables.

No easier....no quicker....

Some people are all up in arms over Christmas. THAT is why. I am surprised some people don't get all bent out of shape over "Happy Holidays."

It's because people recognize that there's more than one holiday around this time of year.

Remember, solstice is the reason for the season.

I'm sick of this war on New Year's Eve.

I wish people would stop acting like Christmas is the ONLY holiday there.
