It is my understanding that their spirit resides with God, and while the mind is gone, the spirit is still intact.

Accepting the principle of Christ as a real presence that one may have a relationship with, one would imagine that said relationship would be maintained the same way anyone maintains a relationship with an Alzheimer's patient; there may be less input into the relationship from the one side, but the relationship would be maintained, with the other person(in this case, Christ) making up the deficit.

The RelationShip with Christ Takes Place PRIMARILY in The SpiritMan (When you get your Spirit RECREATED---called being Saved or getting Born-Again).

An Actual Spiritual Recreation when you Give GOD (Jesus) Permission to Recreate your Spirit. So you can Go to Heaven.
Later on! :)

Alzheimers affects the Brain (Flesh and Blood) which then Affects the Soul (Second Mind---invisible Spiritual Super-Computer that does things for ya!)

The First Mind (Spiritman, real Person) is Still In-Tact and in Contact with GOD (Jesus) EVEN if they Cannot get Through their Soul and Brain to CONTACT YOU!!!

It is not only Alzheimer's disease, this question can be asked for all mental diseases.

According to Religious logic, all you need is Faith. So faith is not related to memory and Christ says if you have faith of the value of one Mustard seed then you can tell a mountain to move. Maybe these diseases are interpreted religiously as being a test of faith for the person suffering.

funny you should ask i just visited a alzhiemers patient yesterday
that was a preacher for 70 years...

i think in clear cases of where the person was truley faithful
up until alzhiemers takes over that the Lord knows what was
in the hearts and minds and that a medical problem such as this
where the memory goes will have no consequences on thier salvation....

its no different then a person in a coma that can't go to church
and have fellowship or read the word of God or pray....

God knows whats going on...

We're not obligated to maintain a relationship with God, we just have one.

Maybe you should ask whether someone with advanced alzheimer's is able to maintain their relationship with family members? (And if not, does that make the family members imaginary?)

My grandmother had Alzheimer's. She was in a nursing home where her daughter worked. She saw my mother every day almost and could not remember who she was. They held church services in the cafeteria sometimes and my grandmother would go to them. As soon as they would start singing the old gospel hymns my grandmother would sing as loud as she could and she knew EVERY WORD TO EVERY SONG. Coincidence? Some things you just can't explain away.

They don't have to maintain anything. God does. If they have lost their minds-and having once had a breakdown I know what that means-God is the one holding them close, they are His children, whether they're 2, or 82, they belong to Him.
I think God grades us on a curve that depends on what we're capable of-and because of Jesus, that curve embraces all of us, in whatever condition.

If their faith is deeply rooted in their childhood, those memories seem to last the longest.. It's like your life is stripped away, year by year, so the younger they were when they began their relationship with Christ, the longer they can maintain it.

Galatians 5:4
Christ is become of "no effect unto you", whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace (to law law).

Hebrews 9 (paraphrased)
Law, sacrifice thereof, purges "almost all"; Not all, leaving sacrifice lovers of law with a little leaven leavens the whole.

The operaton of God removes all cancer us law,
so we may have eternal life instead of dis-ease.

Grace --> Mercy ---> Peace with you all. Amen.
