I don't think so. Merry CHRISTmas! Jesus really is the reason for the season. I don't know why atheists etc get all worked up about it. They don't get angry when people celebrate the Chinese new year. Christmas is the time that I celebrate my Savior. If they hate the word Christmas so much then why do they still celebrate in some form or another. Or why would would they be offended when I say Merry Christmas, how bout' just say I don't celebrate Christmas and I will respect that. Happy Holidays... no way... It's Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
But I will say that isn't the case for everyone... It just seems to be few that have the problem with it. So thank you to the ones that no my meaning behind it isn't to offend you, it's just to be friendly.

No, but don't lump atheists (and probably Buddhists) into these religious groupings.
I love Christmas Carols and sing them with gusto. Not because I believe in god, but 'cos I like to. I sing along to Anarchy In The UK but, it don't mean I believe in it!
Christmas is brilliant, it can be part of our culture without belief in a fairytale sky god REALLY being 'up there'.

Jesus told us to bless those who curse us. So? It is right to wish a very Merry Christmas to all, including Christians who usually bless us too.

Don't think it's wrong.
Christmas is just a time of year that has special connotations for Christians. So I reinterpret it to be "Have a happy festival" I appreciate the thought, and merely substitute Yule.
If I went around saying "Happy Yule" I'd hope for a similar response.

They might take it wrong, but if your heart is pure and your wishes sincere, your act of well-wishing is not wrong. God doesn't call us to be successful in spreading His Word and Love, just faithful.
On the other hand, if someone has expressed Anti-Christian and anti-Christmas sentiment vocally and you know that they will not only not appreciate but resent the sentiment, it might be best to spread your "tidings of great joy and goodwill" in another direction.

If they wear a sign stating "i am an atheist", then by all means tone it down and say "happy holidays". If you have no clue then dont worry about it. Just say "merry Christmas" and smile big!
